Well, all the pictures of the focused dots have been taken with a camera (Panasonic DMC-FZ50) which allowed me to perform a manual focusing and fixed time and diaphragm: the best I found was f:11 - 2sec exposition. I repeated several times all this pictures because, for one reason or another, something was not correct for my eyes. Also in these last pictures, it looks that the camera has read the dots with a lower variety of light intensities, that is, less different tones respect to the other camera I have previously used. If you look at the pictures in my answer #1869, there are more tones than in the last test. Unfortunately, the other camera (Panasonic DMC-FX37) does not allow me to "fix" manually all the components of the shot, this means that it adjust automatically the time/diaphragm according to the minimum differences of brightness (I had to discard these pictures due to differences).

Taking such a big picture of a "dot" is really a difficult thing.....

It does look like some 'pain staking' work you went through...

Thanks for doing that! :thanks:

Yes, thank you Franco, for the extensive tests you performed!

I had no idea how detailed they would be! :yh:
You really took a lot of time to do everything perfectly! Looking forward to the burning videos!

Otherwise, good news! An express package from US, with your name on the sled inside just arrived, carrying the expensive but legendary BDR-203BK sled!

Your 8x laser will be ready for shipping by Tuesday. I need to do a careful plot of the diode first, and then make a new driver for it, based on the plot.

I'll send you the P/I/V data to select a power from the plot tomorrow most likelly.

After that, i may be forced to play with it for an evening...

Hmm, what are those two darker spots next to the main ones on the PHR tests? Did you ever see anything like that with your eyes?

Otherwise the difference between GGW and PHR really is huge!
I don't recall seeing it like that myself. I guess i have more tests to perform!

Do you have any of these glowing sheets left i could buy off of you?

P.S. Is the experimental diode-killer red still failing to do it's originally intended job (= killing the diode)?

Hey Igor, I am sending you a package soon anyway, and I have 2 sheets, I would be happy to let you have one. It's a small thing compared to your good will around here! AMB! -Glenn

Is it the package with diode from Dave?

Otherwise i would love one of those sheets!

I am making a new package for you as well. You filled up a whole batch by yourself. The drivers are killing me... :undecided:

I'm also planning a little something extra for you, but it probably won't make this package...

Otherwise, did you take photos of your LPMs internals so i can tell you what to send me for a rebuild?

The spots: as I have told to Jay, the enlargement of the focused spot has reduced the pale tone rings of the "splash", leaving the most visible ones....

I'll ship you three glowing sheets....

Red diode: still living, also if its actual P.O. is 292mW...

MY new 8x: I can't wait....:pop: :pop: :pop:

Interesting.. Is the power of the freaky-red dropping without the temperature being higher?

That can mean only one thing - it's degrading. Some imperfections in the die are growing and it will die soon..

Oh well, it was too good to be true anyway. But it's at 520mA, i didn't really expect it to survive even this long..

We'll just put in an open can, when this one burns out.

Your new 8x COULD be with you by the end of next week, if shipping is this fast both ways now!

Folks, I have just received my second IgorT laser on 28th August.

The laser I ordered is 6x-405nm@215mW with a Higher Wavelength Freak-diode.

Let’s have a look at the package (for some reason, address has been hidden.)

Opening the package, the contents seems very safelly packaged. As you can see the box with the laser is sealed inside bubble wrap, to protect the stuff and keep it from falling around in the envelope during shipping. (There is more bubble-wrap inside the laser box to protect the laser itself even further..).

Next, opening the bubble wrap……

A pair of 3.7v circuit protected 14500 rechargeable Li-Ion batteries,
Well packed spare lenses, LED caps, and a box of RC-A2 Romisen host.

Look at that, what’s inside? 218mW??

Yes! I ordered 215mW…… I was surprised to see i got more! That means the diode I own is a freaking super-freak (the laser was made with less than 200mA)!

Compared to my older laser purchased from Igor which is v1 Heatsink/Module PHR@120mW, the 6x@218mW is noticeably brighter and more powerful than the PHR@120mW, I tried to use the 6x to burn matches at 20feet, matches were killed instantly!

I paid extra for Igor to find me a super-freak high wavelength 6x diode during pre-testing, and i'd say that the difference is really noticeable! It’s quite useful since the 405nm purple colour is not very sensitive to our eyes, I can now see the 405 laser beam at night, and it seems as visible as a 85mW+ Green.

People probably have no idea how much work Igor puts into every smallest detail of his work, but I can tell you…… it was definitely worth it and i don't regret the little extra I paid to upgrade to the best possible diode..

I ask a lot of questions and Igor took time to answer them all and explain how a laser is built and how it works. And knowing all the details I am very proud to own Igor’s excellent quality products! I am fully satisfied with the laser, incredible delivery speed, and flawless craftsmanship!

I also plan on buying an LPM from Igor in the future, so i can finally measure all the lasers i play with. :yh:

I just gotta say that IgorT Is one of the most helpful people on this forum!

I recently posted a review of my own laser I built based off his host and after discussing it with him a while, he actually agreed to sell me some v3 heatsinks that he has.. He said I am the first person he has agreed to sell his v3 all in one heatsink/module to!

I cannot wait to get these heatsinks! In case you didn't see the heatsink I used on my IgorT "wanna be" I will say right now this is going to be a HUGE step up. It still wont compare to actually having an IgorT, but at least I can have something to hold me over until I can buy an 8x/medium lens build from him.

When I get them I will be sure to do a review to let the rest of you know how it goes. I can tell he has put ALOT of work into these heatsinks I am going test them out on a few other hosts as well and hopefully I can get em to work.

Diesel: Why were you surprised? I always take the power people ask for as a MINIMUM, and aim a little higher... So if you order 215mW you get >215mW...

EDIT: Jesus, i just now noticed that i prepared your envelope months before you even properly ordered. I guess i scribbled the date the day i was printing the address labels and forgot to fix it when shipping.. :yabbem:

Otherwise i'm very happy to hear you're enjoying your new super-freak 6x. :yh:

Thank you for your detailed review!

Glutton: I think i'll start offering the v3 Heatsink/Module kits for sale soon... But yes, you'll be the first to play with them in a DIY build... You were the first to ask... ;)

They should fit in many different AA hosts. But not in all of them. Some have strange inner dimensions. You can tell by their head being too short usually...

I will have to send you instructions on how to put it all together tho. There are some little tricks to do it perfectly..

As for your "wannabe" i checked it out when you sent me the link, and it's not that bad. Don't sell yourself too short! You had a great idea there, and it came out looking very nice! Especially if it's your first attempt! I did a lot of improvising in my prototypes as well...

Igor,

how's progress on the 8x?

i still want to send my 6x back for the upgrade to 8x and glass.

what do you predict will be the highest and safest power output on the 8x w/ glass?

i was able to do a match light at 20 feet, but it took longer, like up to 2 minutes with the precise focus. mine is rated at 180mw. i did do a balloon pop at 100 feet, to me that was simply amazing. starhawke's 6x is rated at 196mw. he says he did a match light at 17 feet in under 15 seconds. does 16mw make that much of a difference?

diesel says it lit the match at 20 feet instantly. that's a 38mw difference.

Good work Igor!

It does not matter and is understandable that something very important you need to handle first before, finally solved, and luckly I can still be your customer!

Firstly, Just try to focus well, and be patient,
i believed that the difference between my 218mW super-freaking freak and the normal 180mW is NOT just 38mW,
or just think, even a 38mW laser, could already light match instantly AFTER focused, 38mW may help a lot. (i think)

So I said it was worth to upgrade, might really give you surprise!
Yes, a nice review, but in the words of Crocodile Dundee, "...this is a knife" ;)

Say Igor, did you ever read it, btw? Too detailed, maybe...?
Haha.......Not really, 8x may be a knife, 6x would be a powerful torch.

I know, but I tried my best to write that very short review, coz my english is poor.

I did read it. Diesel asked me for a spell check before posting, because he worries too much about his english, altho he did quite good seeing he is from HK. Why?
