Oh man, this keeps getting better and better. Look at the rep comment he left me.

I wasn't going to - rep zdarkazn for this. I figured it was an error that he took a lot of criticism for, and perhaps that would have been enough.

But the fact that he - repped you, that's too much.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I have looked it over and it's a bit sad, Ben needs to take more time learning how to solder and just plain paying more attention to detail. I found where he soldered wires onto the driver and didn't get them all in the hole so there are loose strands floating around on the board so that they can come into contact with components. the laser diode had been cut from the remaining wire but no soldering was done by the buyer or his people, they only cut the one diode lead I am told.
This leaves the solder job you can see in my pictures.
The major screw up was he hooked the driver up backwards so it burned a resistor so bad it burned through the black heat shrink he had put around the driver  he had heat shrink for the driver but not for the diode leads :tinfoil:

then there is that pan head screw used for a set screw, I suspect it was not tightened well and the Aixiz module turned when the buyer tried to focus the laser. this would have caused the wires to short together (since there was no heat shrink covering them) and over load the driver with a direct short causing the excessive heat at the resistor.

The 445 laser diode is also dead, no light what so ever.

How did this ever operate in the first place I would like to know since the driver was backwards in the ckt.

This one get a big thumbs down in my book and I would say Ben should pay for this man's repairs, but I have no authority...

I'm wondering if we couldn't make it so people/noobs couldn't post till they have read the stickys, the ones about buying lasers from noobs

here's the pic's>

First off we all know there was no heat shrink on the laser diodes pins.

You can see where the lead wire was clipped on the right side lead and where it broke from the left side lead.

The set screw is a pan head screw and I think maybe never got tightened down very well.

The first side of the driver.

The second side of the driver, you can see where the resistor got really hot, it burned through the heat shrink.

Look at the red lead coming from the pill, look where it is supposed to be soldered only about 1/2 the wires made it in the hole the rest are floating around on top of the ckt brd.

But take one more look the driver is hooked up backwards, go figure :tsk:

It got so hot you can see right through the heat shrink.

It's a sad day in laser ville...

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I don't build because I thought my soldering skills weren't up to par... seriously disappointing work there.

If the laser wasn't opened I would have to say fault lies entirely with the builder... since it was Ben, by all rights, half that repair bill belongs to you.

Think of it this way... if the laser was working properly, he never would have wanted to open it in the first place.

I like to build but only for myself.

Flaminpyro did this laser show up with the G1 lens?

Half, are you serious?
Your entitled to your opinion, in most cases I would agree. However that work is pretty bad. Way too many things wrong with it to have to share the cost.

I would love to see Ben step up and just admit he is at fault with this build. All he has to do is just fix this poor kids laser instead of arguing about how it's not his fault.

Ben you can still redeem yourself if you do your best to fix this mistake.
Trade him out one of your working lasers would probably be the easiest since your broke at this time.

He can't even put together a coherent sentence and he expects us to believe he's a responsible adult? Hah.

Hmm, you're right. Half, but after a large partial refund for it being underspec.

There is no way in hell that laser was doing 1.8W unless there is a g1 lens in it.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

How can someone place the driver backwards?
We are talking about a significant amount of money here. Poor soldering would be acceptable imo, but this? Seriously? :( Unless the buyer soldered it backwards himself :shhh:

What does it take before someone is no longer allowed to do business on LPF?

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I would just like ben to pay for the repairs and end this, I'd be happy and this issue would be resolved. I can't imagine anyone would purchase anything from him as things stand now with this thread being unresolved and this review.
