As expected, you get what you pay for. For 59 dollars you too can get a 100mw laser, a significant part of that power IR. They list them as "200mw" units but nope, they are less than 100mw of green. Total power measured was about 107mw, I don't know how much is IR but without an IR filter in it, I am guessing a substantial amount.

That said, for 59 dollars, still not a bad deal at all, a few years ago you could have paid far more, just that I don't like over rated listings.

You could also filter out the green and try to measure how much IR comes through. It won't be completely accurate as some of the IR will reflect off the filter (just as some 532 will reflect off an IR filter) but it will give you some idea of how much IR you have.

I think some Chinese "junk" is cool. The $8 laser 301s and some other cheap lasers from eBay will probably last you a good 1-2 months of happy sky pointing before dying. I think a lot of people just buy "junk" lasers as starters or practice tools before buying bigger and higher quality devices. But yes, a lot of Chinese laser sites do rip people off and sell trash that is worth $10. And as Lethere belight said, I too wouldn't trust the power ratings of some Chinese dealers.

And that looks like a cool deal Laser Project. Let me know how long it lasts and if its worth the 60 bucks in the long run.

I have to agree. Going to light some fireworks with a green instead of blue for cheap? Just grab a 301.

I would feel safe saying that these guys are higher quality than most of the stuff all over ebay. For what it's worth I am looking into buying one of their fully assembled lasers when I get the money. And as for the I.R. concern, the reality is that maybe 20-30mw come through as I.R. and the numbers are not anywhere near what is claimed by most sources. There is definitely alot more green coming through than claims from say the FDA would suggest because otherwise these lasers would be no brighter than an ordinary green pointer you pick up from quartet or logitech. I know for a fact these lasers are emitting more green light than claimed because my U.S. history teacher has a logitech class 3a 532nm laser device in his classroom. Green ebay lasers I have compared to it when he has let me mess around with it are lots brighter than his class 3a 5mw device.
