What about the programs you have installed? Kudos to Microsoft if they really can pull of an in-place upgrade that cleanly.

EVERYTHING works, I'm sure that others will chime in and say the same.

2 niggles I have, and this is nit picking... they have changed the image viewer.
When I used to open a jpeg, MS image previewer would open it and I could right click on it and open it with an editor, you can't do that now, you have to select edit from a drop down....but I haven't looked into changing it back, I just downloaded a third part image viewer and that works fine.

Second niggle is NVidia had real problems nailing the graphics driver for my laptop. I had to download the auto detect thing and after about 12 minuets of "auto detecting" it got it.

I might try it if I was actually able to do the upgrade from a disc. I don't to go through 2 installations if I ever have to do a reinstall in the future.

Downloaded the ISO the other day but will probably only put it on one of my secondary machines to try it out.

Still using windows 7, but I torrented windows 10 and might install it tonight. I wanted to upgrade my windows the "legit" way, but since my registration key isn't exactly valid it wouldn't let me upgrade.

I'm usually against pirating software like this, but I do a clean install of windows every 4-5 months, it's such a pain to do this with legitimate windows copies.

It does not delete anything that I know of. And it almost starts up seamlessly. I say almost because it changes many of the program defaults. I spent some time changing the file associations back. Also I have not figured out how to import my bookmarks into Edge.

Upgraded on my gaming rig, no issues what so ever. 8 and 8.1 were nothing but a never ending slew of software problems. I had to reinstall 8.1 FOUR TIMES because of recurrent registry corruptions. Way faster than 7, all the good points of 8/8.1, none of the problems.

I want to upgrade but my problem is that I don't have a windows 7 disk. I can't get Dell to send me another one, I have my CD key but it only works with the DELL OEM install disk. I should get a bigger drive and image it first to ensure I have a way to go back to windows 7 in the future if needed (beyond 30 days). Maybe next payday I'll buy a 1tb HD for it. (Heck maybe i'll buy a SSD)

Go for an SSD if your wallet allows it. It's so much of an improvement over a HDD. I currently don't even have a single HDD in my PC cause I can't stand how slow they are compared to SSD's.

AOMEI Disk Cloner works a treat for this kind of insurance policy.

Re; windows key - if you use the media-creation-tool from windows and hit "upgrade now" instead of "install" it won't ask for a key.

Not true.

You can go through the phone activation "Wizard" , and it'll activate fine, I've done it countless times.
