I don't think you can Jailbreak the Iphone for other networks. They stopped that a long time ago. If you have T-mobile then get a G1 Google phone, it's just like an Iphone only better. It supports multitasking and the apps are not screened. I like the Blackberry as well, that's all I owned until I got my G1.

Jon

Umm. the Iphone is 10x better than the G1. Yes it can be jail broken and yes the phone is worth the $220.

The iphones can't text or send multimedia messages. They can't take video either. You can not tether them to a laptop as well. Their data plan is iphone specific and expensive.

Some of these things have been fixed with the new 3G-S but you didn't ask about that phone. There are reports of the new ones overheating discoloring the rear of the phone and actually shutting down till they cool off, usually right in the middle of a call.

To me there are much better phones out there.

With the new OS for the phones, you can take video and send Text/multimedia messages. Plus $30 a month for unlimited internet isn't bad, IMO.

FYI: You can copy and paste. Basicly, with the new OS(which is free) you can do everything that you guys are saying it can't do.

IMO, the Iphone, is by far the best phone on the market and the only people who dis it, can't afford it.

Really? I reject that opinion. It's almost ignorant.

No ignorance here...I have owned many..many phones. (I break phones easily:()..but to say that it doesn't deserve to be at the top of anyones list is just dumb. Have you ever owned an Iphone? It really is amazing as to what it can do. Plus, I personally think that it's ease of use makes it top in my list.

I guess in the end, it depends on what you want the phone for. If you want it for ease of use and gaming, then yes, you wont find a better phone, but if you want one for WORK ONLY, then buy something else.

The only reason why I say that a different phone might be better for you if you would only use it for work is because......The lack of being able to eddit Microsoft word, excell, and powerpoint documents.

FYI: I forgot to mention that with the new OS, you can tether the Iphone to a pc. You just have to get the NON-USA version of the OS.

Comon you guys, Quit fighting over the phone....

Done deal.....For some reason, I actually take offense to people who talk crap about the Iphone. I know for a fact that the Iphone 3g is amazing. Now as for the Iphone 3G S....that's a whole nother subject. :)

I will not respond again.

Phones from Japan, N97, TP2, Pre all look very nice.

However I don't really see any future phones that I'm crazy about at all

I prefer the ipod touch over the iphone. I just don't like the iphone as a "phone." IMO I think a phone should have buttons.
I think the ipod touch is a great multimedia device.

I'd really like to play with the G1... Having a phone running an open source linux based OS that's totally hackable really appeals to me. Sure, the iphone runs a stripped down bsd-like OS, and you can do a lot of the same sorts of things if you know what you're doing, but you're not supposed to be able to use it for anything apple doesn't want you to.. Apple has been trying to get laws passed making it illegal to jailbreak the iphone, and every new update they make for it they try to lock it down more and more, trying to limit what you're allowed to do with it.

Plus, the G1 has a real keyboard, and I find typing on a touchscreen to be incredibly annoying (especially if it only lets you type words in its dictionary).

The iPhone is more aesthetically pleasing with its curves & shine.
The G1 on the other hand is a brute tank. It is meant for who like to install custom ROM's. For example on my G1 I installed Hero which gives it more capabilities such as PDF Viewer & Flash

At first I believed I would never like the iphone OS because at the time, it was new, barely had any 3rd party apps to install, and I thought Windows mobile would always have more.
Well now, iphone has definatly caught up, and it has more than enough apps and games to install.

With Android I'm thinking the same thing... When it first came out there wasn't much for it, right now I still don't know too much about android, can someone enlighten me? Are there a lot of apps and games for it yet?

This post, and many others, should be pointing you towards the palm pre. Great, sexy phone, with an excellent new OS that is easier to use than the iPhone and can actually do true multi-tasking, hardware keyboard, and is already completely open for the homebrew community. Completely linux-based OS, and palm is not in any way limiting development by outside parties. Apple tries keeps everyone in the sandbox, while palm made the Konami code (upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart) the password to get the pre into developer mode where you can root the phone or install any homebrew apps even without rooting it! They haven't fully released the SDK yet, but it got leaked (yeah, like that was unintentional) and is getting released to thousands of developers every week.

i meant aesthetically pleasing in the way it lays out the apps for you, such as the texts and the browser and itunes ect.. i also already installed a video recorder on it and it lets me take videos without limitations (other than the 12.7GB i have left lol)

and yes i do like the palm pre but its pretty expensive, the reason i jumped on the iphone was because i got it for $220 without a year contract thing. and after jailbraking it and unlocking it it can do pretty much anything another phone can.
