Hey, I picked up one of these at an indoor flee market.

American DJ Accu Spot 250 II Intelligent Moving Head

It has a burned out bulb. I ran it through its paces, and checked the Gobos, color wheel, shutter, mic, ect, and everything works fine.

So the questions are,

1. Do you think its worth buying a ~$150 bulb?
2. Is a DMX set up expensive, and/or hard to configure?

I have a DMX board I would sell cheap, but it can be tricky. If you want to program shows, DMX is a b!tch.

I would buy a new bulb for it (but I am comfortable with DMX), if you dont want it, I will take it off your hands.

What kind of bulb does it take?

This thing is very heavy. Its listed at almost 40lbs. Shipping might be ridiculous.

$150 to get a moving head fixture working again isn't too bad. American DJ is entry level, so those aren't top shelf fixtures or anything, but they're not bad either.

To me the biggest consideration is that you only have one. Most stage lighting like that is best used in pairs is you only have a small number of them.

Thanks EF.

I've been looking at replacement no name bulbs, and have found some really cheap. But they say the are 90v 250W. The specs of the bulb on the PDF says 230v/250W. Are these the same bulbs? I know its seems like no, but I maybe missing something.

I just called the company and they told me that the 230v range was for overseas use. They use a switching power supply so it will always power the bulb at 90v. So I found some cheeper bulbs on ebay. :wave:

I just picked up a bulb from ebay for $35.

I've seen used ones on ebay going for ~$450 in used working order, not including shipping. There are a few right now that are factory refurbished for ~$650 including shipping.

If you want it I'll sell it to you for $135 including the new bulb. Plus whatever shipping might be. But you buy it as-is. Which means a postal money order as payment. I have a good sales rep here, and I'm not out to rip anyone off. Its just that this is used, and has to travel across country to get to you. I did take it apart and everything was working like it was suppose to.

So think it over and let me know.

Can you get me the exact weight? 40 pounds is a lot, and close to my tripod's limit.

Hey no big deal if you dont want it. I'll end up throwing it up on ebay for more money after playing with it for a while. If its really cool I'll keep it.

I think I will pass then. I wonder what makes these so heavy. My LED moving head does everything this one does, and weighs 9 pounds.

I'd imagine the power supply has to be beefy. Didnt you read the PDF specs, and parts list on the web site? There is a lot of stuff in there.

No prob bro. This thread was never intended to be a sales thread. I could use the money, so I'd figure I'd offer you a deal. On second thought its better this way because I should get an easy $300 on ebay for a running unit.

I guess that's right. I saw the PDF, I didn't think that through that it has to have a 250 watt power supply. That's stupid. These should take 120 volt bulbs.

It actually takes a 90v bulb. I read in the specs it says 230v/250W bulb, but it didnt match the replacement bulb spec. They were all 90v. I called the company and they said it had a switching power supply for overseas power sources. So the bulb will run from a 110v - 230v power source.

Thats what I find odd. If it took a 110 or 230 volt bulb, no heavy power supply would be needed.

I really have no idea why its so heavy. But I'm sure its warranted. Why would they add all the extra mass for no reason? It would cost more in material, production, and shipping.

I'm not pulling the base apart.
