I used to own a Nexus 7, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top notch yet affordable Android tablet.

I use a Evga Note 7 tablet with Tegra 4 graphics, its really a neat tablet 7 inch size and it can play almost all games with maxed graphics, and it has good stereo speakers at front and even a small bass port on its side. It has also a pen like samsung has on their tablets. It also has a Hdmi connection so i can hook it up to my tv.

Ive been going back and forth between getting the Nexus 9 or the Nvidia Shield Tablet. The 9 is supposed to get released tomorrow so i will wait and see if i like it first.

Do you know if they're going to be doing another Nexus 7? I heard they may drop the 7" line.

I dont think a 2nd Gen Nexus 10 will ever exist. And i do think that they will be discontinuing the Nexus 7 also as they are allowing it to go out of stock on the play store and a 9inch isnt too different. Since the Nexus is meant to be a baseline hardware for the Android Lollipop OS they really just need one tablet and one phone.

It's a shame the 7" tablet market is drying up. 10" tablets are sweet, but they're a bit unwieldy if you're on the go or typing a lot (unless someone puts a resizeable keyboard into an OS), and most importantly they're quite expensive. That's the beauty of the 7" ones, screen size is still enough for proper enjoyment with minimal frustration, but they're very affordable, usually ringing in around $200.

Yup, I saw that. Can't say I like their new "materials" OS feature (hope it's disableable), or the lack of screen PPI info, but it looks like a very solid tablet. Front facing high grade speakers are certainly a plus. Boy, is it expensive though. $400 for the 16gb model, which typically only has 12gb of useable space after OS install.

It certainly looks like they've discontinued the 7" model, what a shame.

I'm honestly not worried about the price. A couple of my laser sales went directly to a pot for a tablet. Unfortunately I won't settle for less than premium devices so I'll just have to settle for price. You can't have both.

Unfortunately true. I hope stores like best buy or the likes carry these. I have trouble committing to a purchase like a 500$ tablet if I can't physically hold one and mess around with it first.

I hear that!

I had to make my choice of HDX/Nexus7 without getting to see either one in person (only store within 100mi of me is a walmart). Had I the opportunity to test either one in person, I'd have gone with the Nexus 7.

Btw, I got my replacement HDX yesterday and initial inspection shows it to be working fine. I spent about three hours updating and sideloading and adjusting settings back to how I had it on the returned one.

Word on the street is that with the roll out of the new FireOS coming it will be impossible to root any amazon devices. Whether or not a roll-back to V1 (necessary for jailbreaking and running the Nexus OS variant of true android) will be still possible is anyone's guess.

My plan is to use the HDX as is for the remaining 11mo of the manufacturers warranty, and after that point jailbreak it to Nexus OS. Worst comes worst at that point I've gotten my money's worth out of it.

Apparently they will. I work at Best Buy and am going to ask Management tomorrow. Im still thinking about preordering it from Google Play though. I need to check out their return policy though.

Almost everything looks better than the Nvidia Shield Tablet. Only things Nvidia wins on are stylus inclusion and price. And I am pretty sure I can source a good stylus.

At least they kept the 4k resolution from the 10. The more I've been thinking about it, the more I realize a 9 inch screen would be perfect- especially since it wouldnt be replacing a full computer for me. Just really wish it had an SD slot and a slightly lower price point. Maybe the upcoming 4g model will have an sd slot. Probably not, but I can hope :D

The LTE model will not have an SD card slot either unfortunately.
