Apple iPad Air vs Sony Xperia Tablet Z LTE - Tablets Specs Comparison

Personally I´ve written a list with specifikations that are important, less important, not important for me. Than I compared on the internet, spezifications, tests. Than I went to the shop to see and use my options site-by-site.

2 days and I was sure that the iPad was the right one for me.
But didn´t follow the tablet market a lot since then.

I had considered the Xperia Z tablet as I too love the aestheticts more than anything on the market. It LOOKS like high tech, not some childs toy. The other cool thing about it is that it is water resistant. Supposedly you can submerge it for up to 30 minutes and it wont die. My issue is this: not a stylus tablet, so limited note taking potential, and also less powerful internals. My other thing is that I dont know how timely sony is with updates or new OS's.

Less powerful internals? It's currently the flagship tablet from Sony, featuring all the highest end hardware. It's not any less powerful, I assure you.

Not sure why you worry about updates, but Sony does regularily deliver them. At least in my experience, I have their phone.

The reason I say less powerful is that the Xperia Z is equipped with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro whereas the Note 10.1 2014 edition comes with a 1.9GHz quad-core as well as a 1.3GHz quadcore. The fact that the Xperia doesn't have to push out near as many pixels will help with their performance though. I need to look into WACOM styluses I guess, since the lack of the S-Pen would be the biggest detractor from the Xperia's value to me.

It´s less powerful than the Note and the iPad Air. But for sure even fast enough for almost every application.

Remember that it was already released back in February 2013. Afaik Sony doesn´t have a newer version of it, but I could be wrong.

The Note is overclocked to 1.9Ghz as the baseline processor (Samsung's Arndale "Octa"-QuadCore A15 --identical to - Apple's A7 runs 1.8Ghz natively)
These two tablets run basically the same graphics processor and CPU.

I am waiting for the day I see a tablet this powerful run Unbuntu 13.x.x then I will be getting one. Android isn't powerful enough as a OS nor have the amount of applications.

Yes... I prefer the look of the Sony tablet to the iPad Air's space grey design.
It looks better and has usable ports. :tinfoil: iPad air has none of these.

even though I am an Mac user and fan of the OSX, I don't like the way Apple requires builders and developers to pay for an i/o licence for bluetooth and dock connectors. That's just not right!!

Direct chipset comparison shows that you're right, it's marginally slower.

Which again, really, just boils down to personal preference instead of hard numbers for a reason to go with either. All I'm saying is what I'd go with. I'm in no way telling Isaac what to pick, just trying to put all options on the table, is all, since I didn't see the tablet mentioned anywhere in the thread before.

Having repaired & used many tablets, here's my 0.02c.

The iPad 3/4/air , I cant fault the hardware, they are built to exacting standards and I cant fault them, apart from the stupid "Lightning" connector they have adopted.
They are insanely weak and we sell 4-5 a DAY.
The Xperia tablet I cant comment on as I haven't tried one. But most, if not all higher end Sony stuff is going to be good. Despite having the pick of any phone I could want due to the industry I work in, I have a little Xperia GO (ST27i) and I love it.

I think I am going to end up getting the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition for one reason: S-Pen. I hate touchwiz, so I will be running novalauncher which should speed it up further. I do love the aethetics of Sony's Flagship tablet, but the built in stylus is a game changer for me for school. There is an app that lets you record a lecture while you take notes and then you can select a spot in your notes and it will play that part of the lecture.

Just to further this discussion along, the lightning connector is a actually a great idea from the industry standpoint in that it is completely reversible unlike the last doc connector.
The decision to go lighting link was simply to reduce repair costs while boosting licensing profits at Apple's end.
However the lighting link comes with a major drawback for developers, this is the high licensing fee needed for any company or person wanting to develop a dock or hardware for it.
Design wise it solves most of the problems of the last doc and is safer.
