G'day,

Bought this kit off eBay last month.

What is a plasma speaker you say?

It modulates a audio signal into HV at the same frequency which does 2 things, gives off nice little arcs & amplifies the audio signal!

Heres are Video(s)

Thanks for looking!

Fiddy.

Very nice, Fiddy!

I've wanted one of these for a long time (as well as a Tesla Coil and a Jacobs Ladder) but always staved off from buying one because I wouldn't be able to use it anywhere I am. Between the RF noise and the HFHV EM fields these awesome devices throw off they aren't safe near electronic equipment more complex than a toaster. It would have to be far from my office (computer and radio equipment) and my living room (entertainment center) which leaves only my bedroom. The only thing I do in my bedroom is sleep, lol. I suppose I could build a faraday cage for it but that's kind of silly, lol.

That looks like one of the kits from eastern something something research? Does it produce nearly as much bass as in his demonstration video on Youtube?

Nah its not the kit from eastern voltage research, its from aautomation.
The kit from eastern voltage research looks beefier than this one but its 3x the price.

This one doesn't like bass.

Ohhhh OK. aautomation has some great stuff. Used to have one of his tesla coil kits, then I sold it! Totally regret doing that now. He said about 6 months ago that he's releasing a new one with higher output mid last month. Doesn't look like it has happened yet, but I'll be on it when it does!!

Mind sharing a link to the kit? Can't seem to find his webstore.

I dont think they are as bad as you made out.

How about the garage? thats where i conduct my electronic trickery :D

Wish I had one! Hehe.

Yeah, I may be exaggerating a little. I had a 15kV plasma driver I used to have fun with when I was younger that only affected things a few feet out. I did have a "worlds smallest solid state tesla coil" from Information Unlimited which would knock out a TV set from a few rooms away though. The main difference was in operating frequency IIRC. The plasma driver was in the tens of kilocycles while the tesla coil was only 30Hz.

Get a topload it! :)

Ive designed countless TC's , your one looks very good. Even used to wind my own secondarys , still got a few kicking round somewhere :)

There's two types of plasma speakers.... Tesla coil based and flyback transformer based.

Usually the one that produces the most interference is the Tesla coil based one, because it's AC and thus the magnetic waves created by the arc can easily travel through the air and get inside of your sensitive electronics.

Then there's also in-line noise which can be killed using a nice filter.

Also, for SSTC coils like yours Fiddy you don't want or need a topload. They're typically ran without one, especially smaller coils.

Fiddy, like I said in my post before, keep an eye out for aautomations new DRSSTC kit. I had one of the earlier versions and they are awesome, he says he has a new higher power one on the way. I'm about to email him now to see if he has made any progress with it.

Your plasma speaker coil doesn't need a big topload because it runs at a very high frequency, thus having a larger surface area means more charge could bleed off to the air = no noise or spark :)

Oh fuck yeah! Id love one.

His kits are awesome, ive got his coil gun kit on the way as well and some magnetic leviator kits i found :)

Was looking at the microbrute from eastern voltage research but its built for 110V:(

Keep me posted on your email you sent to him.

Nice stuff from Eastern Voltage Research and boy does it beat the prices from Information Unlimited. I may have to pick myself up a SSTC from them in the future.

Do you have do wind the secondary from Aautomation?

Nah you dont! it comes pre-wound.

You get to wind the primary tho, 5 turns :p
