MS Powerpoint viewer drives me nuts!!!

Does anyone know how to get a Powerpoint slide show to come up as a separate window and not something that takes over your whole screen? I actually don't have the Powerpoint program but just the free viewer software. People send me all kinds of stuff in that format but I almost never look at them because I hate the way the viewer hogs my whole screen and I can't minimize it if I need to switch to another tab in Firefox.

Or, is there some other program out there that the images can be viewed in?

OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite has a viewer and editor for powerpoint files.. you should be able to use that.
