I'm building a Battle-Bot

Well, awesome school project... a BATTLE BOT.
(For if for any reason, you don't know, a "Battle-bot" is more or less a huge R/C car, built for ripping to shreds other R/C cars of similar nature.)

So far, I have ripped apart a Power-wheels car for the drive, a broken electric lawn motor for the blade, taken the motor from a key grinding machine, and did a little bit of metalwork.

Now, I need the electronics. I have a radio, but none of the speed-controllers.
:(

Whatever, pics:

- What kind of voltage do the motors run on?
- What kind of current do the motors draw?
- What kind or radio system are you running?
- Are you sure the battery can even run the motors for the length of time you intend to operate the robot for?
- Are there any restrictions as to the design/type of technology/devices that may be used?
- What is your budget?

- 12v, for both(4x9.1 Ah batts.)
- I tried testing, but my MM is to small, or I'm doing it wrong
- A GWS
Link:
Robot MarketPlace - GWS GWT-6A 75Mhz 6-channel Radio System
I have a 6ch "Pico Receiver"; is that to small?
-Yes.
-None relevant to my design.
(no flammables, projectiles, or electrical weapons)
-about $200, preferably less.

Also, thanks. :D

What kind of motors are they? Brushless, brushed, outrunners? If they are brushed, I highly recommend the vex victor motor controllers; we used them in our HS robotics team. A very rough way to approximate current draw is to weigh the motor; the rule of thumb is "15 amps per pound". Keep in mind this is an extremely rough estimate; your motor may draw more or less...

But was not ended in the 1997, that serie ? (or in the 2002 the UK one, maybe ?)

Nevermind, i think we can always start a new robotwars campaign (with high power lasers on the robots, this time, otherwise isn't so funny ..... :p :D)

Oh Chuck... I remember when I used to catch that show on TV, it was freaking awesome.

Ice, you should add some horizontal saws like Speed Racer had :D

Thats what the rest of my class has - but they are all little rc cars with spikes on them.
Im going to dominate them.
...but, my teacher has a 60-ish lb spinner similar to "zippo".
I might need to fight that.
I'm thinking of machining a blade, because the lawn mower blade is small, and also rusty... Might not be good...

Your teacher will be competing? :yabbmad:
And is he building his bot new using only the time that everyone else has? Or is this gonna be the same bot he has used previous years on his previous victims... er students?

The bot is one that one of his students from awhile ago made.... some things happened and now the teacher has it.
It is more-or-less being used to "honer the memory" of the person who built it.

It is just going to sit in one of the corners, so it only kills things if you go into it's corner.

...but whatever.

Can you use a circular saw blade? While lawn mower blade looks cool, a circular saw is built as best as possible for slicing material.
Will the battle be recorded? :san:
