Ok I have this 2tb usb3.0 hard drive its worked lovely since the day I got it. It has barely moved and it's about a quarter full the other day it stopped working. It doesn't get detected at all. Its as if the plug is broken so brilliant as I am I bought a new cable still nothing. And when everything is plugged in I can turn the power button on on the hard drive which i've never had to do before but the computer still doesn't detect it. It does not show up in disk utility on my mac or disk/device manger on windows. I can just get it swapped for a new one but then I would love around 500gb of data.

You could take the drive out of the unit and plug it right into your computer

Well I'd say do what guyfromhe said. If the data is that important to you then voiding the warentee is worth it. Besides, external drives aren't that expensive anymore :S

^ +1. If you value the drive more than the data, don't open and use the warranty to get a new one. If you value the data more than the drive, just add it to your computer and you'll just have to live with the extra 2tb of storage that you can now access much faster (Unless you were actually running usb3, in which case you'd only be able to access it a bit faster)
