Should we add a flashlight section?

I was with you until the final paragraph. Petty vengeance IS the act of a troll. You sign up to an elitist forum with a cute little hierarchy and get banned, why not leave them to it?

Aware of the off-topic-ness, but I have no opinion on the matter, not yet being a laser or torch person and only having been a member for a few days.

I think that it is not a bad idea to insert a section about the flashlights as well as another on the high-voltage devices...

I think it's a nice thought, and vote yes, but I think that it will stray, it's inevitable.

Doesn't look like anything till you make a public poll.

I really have nothing against flashlights. My only experience was that kid here that only talked about his flashlights, and trying to trade his flashlights for lasers every chance he got. I didn't like it, and if that was a preview of the future, I don't want it. If they can keep it in one section, OK, but I dont see it happening. People are going to start to list lasers, and flashlights in their sig too. Once again taking the focus away from lasers.

Post a poll. Thats the democratic way of doing things, then present it to Avery for final approval. He may not like it either.

You seem to have had the discussion. Now set up a poll. c0ld (nor any of the mods) really does not have the time to peruse through a thread to figure out the "feeling" of the group.

Well if you are going to ask for a Flashlight and High-Voltage Section...
Then I think a Laser Power Meter/Tools Section makes even more sense... IMO

You could add that to the poll to keep it fair..

I agree with Lasersbee. A "Tools" sections could be beneficial as well. It could hold the discussion of presses, machining, meters, mounts, etc.

Back to topic: Perhaps a few more options need to be considered when making the poll. Adding a flashlight section? Adding a Tools section? Adding both? Neither?

I guess you could call it "General lighting". This way you could include LEDs, and other forms of lighting too. I know Wayne and a few others have interests with different bulbs, and such. I myself have a few lighting projects on the back burner.

This is the "slippery slope" worry that plagues us. Where does it end? When do we stop being a "laser pointers" focused forum and become a "light source" forum?

Yes there are other boards besides only laser pointers herein. However, a bright line must be established somewhere. How large do we want the front page to be?

You have a good point there. "Lasers" as a general topic is very broad, and can be broken up into many sub-topics. But how many of those do we need?

A poll is a good idea. A large enough ratio of those that say they would use it, to those who say they would not, would be the determining factor. So a poll is the best way to find out how many of each we have here. Where do we say, "This is enough people", or "This is not enough to justify adding such a section".

Randomlugia: I think it's only fair that you start the poll, so we can get this decision rolling.

Yes a section on LPM could be very usefull but it does not exclude another section on the flashlights or High-Voltage devices, after all the LPF is a very large forum and has many users...

I'm guessing that most of us gadget guys are kinda into cool flashlights. I'm crazy about them, they are the same kind of fun as lasers. Same feeling of powerful light. If it wasn't for nekokapo and the guy who started this thread I would never of heard of CPF so i thank both of you for the sharing of ideas........ i hope to keep the flashlight thing going here. I am always shopping for and researching both lasers and torches at the same time. So it would be great to learn about both here. Thanks

perhaps the section name could be called "other light sources" and not flashlights (plz mention this in the poll).. the text description of the section could say flashlights in it tho
