rep boosts

lul wtf, I just realized that half of the forum got incredible boosts to 10k or even 20k rep points :wtf:

Yeah what gives? I can see members with huge rep and I don't even know who this guy is wtf. The rep system is dead.

Same here lol, like for instance: roosl, doofus, rob, tymtraveler... Just a quick look at the list, I just don't know who they are xD

They are people who do stuff "behind the scene" for the forum. Rep is c0ld's only way to reward them. They may not be big posters, but they are integral to the success of the forum.

Donations, design time, server space, hardware, software help, etc.

You check that list and realize there's something wrong. Not only for myself but for many others. The way it is now to take out the rep phoenix gives at once it would need me, H_mike, billg, styropo, Mohrenberg, pseudolobster, EF, TJ, and Brew to neg rep him!

Well, like I mentioned elsewhere before, I was surprised when Avery 1st gave me rep, didn't even know how that worked, and that I'm only too happy to share it and pass it around, which I do as often as vB will let me. One day, after the last brouhaha over who had more rep, I +rep'd as many nice guys as I could before it wouldn't allow any more.

Albert, I've +rep'd you a couple of times, and sent you PMs. The last time I tried, vB said I had to wait to rep you again.

Of course, many of you guys deserve more rep for the help you provide, the builds you do, and yes, the diodes you fry. I think that's what Avery asked for: For others to send him a note when someone should get a boost, because we can't rep each other sufficiently.

oh lol yes, I now remember you! I'm sorry but I receive multiple PMs every day of people asking for help etc, I can't remember every name hehe

I was not trying to atack anyone, of course I guess you just received the rep and didn't complain, but check my last post... something is wrong xD

There is nothing "wrong."

Rep is c0ld's to give as he sees fit.

You cannot "earn" it.

It must be given.

You cannot "balance" it.

Whether you or I or anyone else thinks someone "deserves" it or not is immaterial.

You give rep when you think it is appropriate. So does c0ld.

Re-read the OP.

He didn't ask for opinions on the rep system or opinions on whether we thought that anyone had received too much.

He asked for people to email him if they thought that someone (other than themselves) deserved a boost.

Do you think that someone else deserves a boost?

hey sup guys. (as many of u prob already know) regarding the reputation, since the conversion from YaBB to vBulletin (where it wasn't possible to easily convert rep from one system to another), i did my best to manually reset users rep (i had to do this for like at least 100 ppl)

ever since i have been randomly giving people rep for reasons such as helping w/ technical issues (e.g. layout testing, layout design, graphics), generally being a trusted forum member, donations, leadership, kindness / helpfulness

i try and seek feedback from other members about who they think other than themselves deserves increased rep every now and then.


it is my goal for everyone to be happy w/ the system. at this point i don't think its realistic we could reset all reputation to default values... i would only consider doing somethiing like if say 80% to 90% of members wanted it. i would be reluctant to impulsively change what we have already

i think the best thing is to stick w/ what we have, but just email me if you personally think another user deserves an increase or decrease

as always open to suggestions=)
