i have found the likely cause of the issue

LPF has firewall rules that will drop any packet and send an email alert to me, that it detects as having spam-like patterns in it. this generally has very few false positives but after checking a few alerts from today, it appears the IP addr of the users who had problems accidently triggered a few of the firewall rules

if a member has like 0 posts and firewalls one of these spam alerts triggers, i sometimes will autoban the account. but here these looked like 100% false positives and nobody did anything wrong lol

sorry for any troubles caused but overall this has been helping a lot find new users that signed up just to send a PM spam or post spam or anything else

note that this system will impact any type of spam including PM spam or post spam

signs that u accidently triggered an alert (after posting some data anywhere on LPF, the page just hangs or times out)

generally i only get a few of these alerts triggered per day.

take care everyone and have a good weekend
peace

Could it possibly be the PL link?

I had trouble again this morning when I tried to show someone a picture stored there?

Peace,
dave

for anyone that had a fail:

what exactly happens: does page timeout, or does it refresh to next page and everything appears to work but doesnt get sent?

if it timesout, the ;potential cause could be firewall rules to prevent spam (if this is the case plz email me the exact text u were trying to send)

if it was not timeout, im not sure what the cause was. perhaps i was doing a forum backup at that time and b/c the site was in maintenance mode it interfered

plz let me know which one of hte 2 situations happened for u /etc and full details

Mine problem: I receive a PM, then I answer it (reply), the person don't get the reply, and after ~3 minutes the person receive the reply, and I receive the first pm AGAIN!

the whole thing is SLOW at lpf, pages timing out etc.

I've restarted since then. Since it didn't "send" there is no copy of it in my computer. I've emailed my memory of it

If it happens again, I'll be more responsive

Not true! I had life all figured out when I was just 16 years old

Of course, I've forgotten most of it in the last 40 years :yabbem:

Peace,
dave

You wouldn't happen to have any notes from that time lying around now, would you?

Sorry Avery I should have given my particulars to you sooner. On Sunday afternoon 2/6 I was sending a PM to Dave and it just sat there with the send icon rotating for about 10 minutes so I just hit stop on my cornputer and logged out and logged back on. No problem after that. I guess I thought it could have been my system but not so sure now if its still happening.
Thanks:yh:

@Tonga
Happened to me too. When I sent PM with read confirmation for 3 members at same time. I closed the page, and after looking my pm's page, I saw it was sent.

@dane, I have searched your IP and compared to the firewall alerts and found the match

for your example i'm 100% sure the filtration worked properly. there was a certain phrase in the PM which caused the firewall to drop that packet.

u didnt do anything wrong but i can verify from my end the matching did work properly in this case
