The title pretty well says it all. :)

Does anyone else find it annoying about the number of threads with useless thread titles?

It's a waste of time opening many of these and it makes real content very difficult to find/search for.

I must be grumpy today.

Your not grumpy chimo you are making a very valid point here and I'm in full agreement with you too.
The amount of times I see threads with titles like eg (Is this any good) and dumb threads like this. This kind of behavior is a throw back from that sodding laser community, most of the people that make these annoying threads are youngsters that are only familiar with MSN crap chat :D
So I'm all in favour of things getting more descriptive on the titles of threads to make the search easier ::)

Yes I like this idea. I do find it annoying and I have made a few threads like that myself.

Full support here.

I'd love seeing any thread with a title like "How about this?" Or "Please Help!" deleted on the spot.  Nothing personal anybody, but I wonder what some of these posters are thinking, that everybody reads every thread?

[Edit] Looking back on this it seems harsh, but these really are annoying.
Also there are a few threads that refuse to die because people keep glomming onto them with posts that would be more appropriate in a new thread. But what'cha gonna do?

So what if there is a "bad file descriptor"? Lock thread? Rename? Delete?

On the other hand, I don't have the time/energy/will to read all of the threads here, so I just "pick the cool sounding ones". Thus it would be in the thread starters interest to make it something better that "Help" or "Dont' know", as there are probably many others who think alike me.

I think this kind of rule is best enforced by all LPFers.
Just ask the original poster to rename the thread.

I give up on this. There are a whole new crop of them up there now.

Don't give up, we just need to shame the offending posters into correcting their mistake.

Hmmm...sorry I missed this thread but I will help out too when I see thread titles that are non-descriptive. I think the poster should be given a chance to edit their thread titles before the thread is deleted.
