Instead of using the subjective "so someone who has say 60 rep but only 500 posts... why not let them in?", why not find a way to make it objective, transparent and fair?

I like where you've gone with the above, and I think it could be tweaked by saying:

- 40 rep (or whatever number makes more sense)
AND EITHER
- 1,000 posts, OR
- 6 months of participation

It seems like that would accomplish filling in the potential gaps, where someone might have been here for a long time, have great rep, but not post a lot. OR, maybe someone posts a lot, gets great rep for it, but has only been doing it for 5 months.

The point of using those three factors is precisely to keep it objective transparent and fair. EVERYONE can see that information.

The numbers were a suggestion based on what I observed so far on the forum, but Avery and the mods should tweak them whichever way they choose... So long as three pieces of data I'm happy.

I don't know about 40 rep... 50 makes a bit more sense to me.

(No worries Bennet... you'll be there in no time:))

Well... if there are any changes to the system... I think you're safe already and have nothing to worry about.

I mean you'd be grandfathered in since under current "regulations" you're already a vet.

So no. I like 50. It's a more logical number. Or if you insist let's do 47... it's prime:p

If you agree to 50, I'll +1 rep you for it ;)

It's all Avery's call obviously. But I think a system sort of like described above makes a lot of sense.

In reality, it's hard to get too passionate about this issue when you realize who actually goes on (or rather how little does) in the Vet section.

The most activity I think the Vet section saw was when everyone pretended they had 505 nm Green Diode lasers a few months ago. That was just downright silly.

rhd where is my rep :na:

Hmmm, I guess I did promise. Alright, rep given.

And to whomever pointed out that people give + rep for absolutely stupid reasons, apparently you're right.

Are we still just talking about just getting into the Vet sub-forum?
Isn't identifying problem sellers & buyers what we really need?
We need to work on that issue IMHO. Either a multifaceted rep system or something more straightforward to implement.

Even that "buyer" that just cost someone a laser & money would still pass that even after his recent neg reps.
Didn't members buy from him with no issue? Would be useful to have seller, buyer & norm rep.

Well then, let's say your +rep was deserved, for your role in pointing out the very phenomenon that it helped illustrate.

Although that creates a brain-hurting paradox.
