Suggestion :

I know there are possibilities to easily integrate payed membership options into the forum.

This way you can easily create membership priveleges with a monthly income base for the forum administrator or future raffles.

For example:

VIP member: $2 per month membership fee, including;
- a nice tag underneath your name to show your support to the LPF forum
- automaticly included in the future raffles for 1 ticket (membership point) at no extra cost.
- access to special VIP area on the forum.
- eternal fame and glory for your actions supporting LPF !   ;)

VIP+ member: $5 per month membership fee, including;
- a nice tag underneath your name to show your support to the LPF forum
- automaticly included in the future raffles for 3 tickets (membership points) at no extra cost.
- access to special VIP area on the forum.
- even more eternal fame and glory for your actions supporting LPF !

This way, the monthly incomming funds can be used partly to keep the forum stable and compensating the costs like hosting and bandwith for the administrator.

On the other part it can be used to steadily build up a nice depot of $$ for future raffles that will be held.
thus meaning; higher powered lasers to win, other prices like optics/lenses etc etc.  and more winners !

All together i think this would be a nice way for dedicated LPF members to show their appreciation towards the LPF forum, and by doing so, also helping it to grow in a healthy way to become the best and stay the best Forum regarding lasers on the net.

There are easy ways to combine forum membership scripts (addons) with recurring montly charges by Paypal and/or Google-Checkout, without much administrative work to it.

Let me know what you think of this idea

Cheers !

fee per year....hmmmm...While I know it would be well worth it for me, I don't know if I would have joined if there had been a fee. even just for a VIP forum or board.

The idea is similar to becoming a patron of an art museum or donating to a library and having your name placed on a plaque. Occasionally such patrons are permitted special viewings or access to rare works not open to the general public.

The public who doesn't donate can still check out books and visit most of the museum.

I think it's a good idea, but I feel a 'one off' fee should apply.
$10 for life!.....

Or, just start a donations box!

Or people who are already members of lpf are already V.I.Ps and have to pay a small fee for V.I.P+ and the advantages of V.I.P + being more customization for your profile etc etc
new people will have to pay a small fee to be V.I.Ps or V.I.P+s but still be able to access other parts of the forum

theres my 2 cents anyway

Good suggestions to all the ones replyed . in fact all are good ideas to put this idea into action.

The reason suggested the monthly payment structure is because it's an easy to add module to the current forum script used.
It provides monthly payments with administrative structure. this without much extra administrative tasks for the forum holder itself.

I've been a forum admin as well for a couple of years, running a succesfull forum including VIP memberships for the ones that wanted to support the forum and keeping it alive. this system works like a charm.

That's why i suggested it here :D all others options are possible as well, but i don't know if they are as easily to manage as well.

My 2 cents ;) (euro cents that is :D)

these are some very interesting ideas

i am not exactly sure how i could implement this type of setup with yabb though. i don't know of any mods for this type of setup , however i am still looking through on http://boardmod.org

perl is a language i am unfamiliar with; i don't think it would be able to make modifications myself.

maybe i could set up a donations area on the forum.

i will let u know if i find any useful mods for this on boardmod or yabbforum

thanks to you all for helping make this forum a laserific place! ok ok that was a bit lame lol, but seriously -- it means a lot to see how dedicated you all are to helping the forum!

regards

i have seen this done before, and is a good idea i think, but maybe make the price a little higher, because if it is to low, there will be too many VIP's, and there wouldn't be any point of the "vip board", since evryone would be able to access it? :D while i am typing, would it be possible to add reputation? you know how when you make a usefull post, someone can give you rep??
thanks

A lifetime fee sounds good with me. I'll pay <$20 for lifetime VIP :D

I already got a PC hardware/PC gaming forum home, now I need a laser home :p

Alright, DECENT idea, but I'm already a VIP so I would not need to pay ::)
::)ERRRR I don't see global moderator or admin next to your name ;D ;D So I'm afraid if you want to be a VIP (if ever this idea takes off) you will have to cough up the dosh ;D
Of course being a Global moderator means I'm an automatic VIP to stop you toe rags spamming wicked lasers ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'll cough up if need be - as a matter of fact - I will be adding a donations button to my sites to assist with supposrting THIS site, not mine :)

Nope ! They got lost in the transition to the new formats...
