Re: Forum Competitions!

One thing is sure you should give everyone a chance to get in. In this I mean making a competition with various prices and categories. For example best host, obviously if I buy a $150 host and a $module than it would t be fair for the ones that don't have the money to do such.

I agree in making a limit to the cost of the eventual laser, and also have a time table that makes it possible to buy the parts and do the project.

I dig what you're saying with regard to categorization.

I'm not so sure about making a run off to rapid fire builds. Maybe a planned schedule for such things way in advance.

But, I like the idea of the competitions being more based on what's already in people's collections. Kinda like, "Hey! Show us how cool you n*2R/1.24X*E is!", and then letting the members rule on such things.

Would this be open to all viewers of the forum, or just registered members?

Re: Forum Competitions!

All of you have some great ideas! Anyone want to volunteer to organize this? I'm pretty busy with exams at the moment so I won't be able to organize the first one.

Re: Forum Competitions!

What about if we did a creative photography competition. Not only would it be a good opportunity for people to show creativity and inspire such in others, but it would also give us tons of gawking material once it is over. I think that would be the easiest due to it not requiring too much money.

Re: Forum Competitions!

That's actually a really good idea  It eliminates a lot of the issues mentioned earlier.

I'm all for cool expensive hosts, but a long term thing might be better for that, than people could take a little time to save $ and collect parts.

Issac's Photon Photo contest might be a good first attempt at this contest thing. It would be nice if some more Vets and Mods chimed in on this...

It was a great Thread idea Gun, take care of school, you've got plenty of time ;)

You've been taking great pictures SBA, iPhones work real good.

Ok...I got something:

Best commercial host under $30 customized

Best custom member builder host; customized/diode selection

Best mod on shit WL corpses

Best use of copper

Top LPM measurements per diode

Best DIY hacks/mods/builds

Just some thoughts

Re: Forum Competitions!

How about one for us electronics junkies? :D

Also, for the LPM measurements that may not be entirely accurate as most LPM's are +/-5%, so someone with one reading 2% low will always lose to someone with an LPM reading 2% high.

LPM measurements can be easy to fake...

Yeah, that does pose some issues...best to stay away from that, then.

Re: Forum Competitions!

Maybe polls for official judges who would maintain some level of consistency.

Re: Forum Competitions!

I volunteer as tribute!!!

Seriously though, while I would love to submit my own creative work and have a chance at whatever prize might lie in store, I would rather judge others' submissions and pick the best ones. I have a good eye for beauty I think, and I would enjoy putting that to use.

Up to the people of course.

"This is just a Tribute for we are just men." :D

I think Issac would be a good choice. Perhaps a Forum Poll would be more democratic though...

Re: Forum Competitions!

If we leave it up to member polling, then those of who'd like to help can just dole out prizes based on results. We keep secret whoever is holding the grab bag each time and let the audience decide amongst us all.

Re: Forum Competitions!

Should definitely be poll based.

I'm not a builder but I will contribute a prize... not sure what yet, need to go through my drawers... most likely flashlight, laser, knife, or host.

Re: Forum Competitions!

I'm up for contributing to the mystery grab bag too! I'm buying parts so I'm sure I'll come across something cool
