No problem norbyx :)

As mdubbicus said, I'm thinking that a small donation as an entry fee would be a good idea. All the entry fees will go towards shipping for the prizes, any money left over will be donated to the forum or saved for the next contest.

:thinking:

Understood. Perhaps you could have the entry fee and use that for shipping and anything left over gets donated to LPF. Gun could just inflate the shipping by $2-3 to cover all eventualities?

I really dont think people will have an issue with it especially if its clearly stipulated before hand.

Still :thinking: Guess Im talking to the wall...:whistle:

I really like your guys thinking.... nothing like a little motivation (prizes/ no prizes) I would just be happy with my build picture featured somewhere on the home screen for the month ;)

I do agree there needs to be a clear set of rules and voting.

I really like the tournament bracket style if we are doing awarding for top 3 placement. You set a submission end date... then you give one week for people to view and vote (either post their favorite 3 builds, don't vote for your own ;) ). Then after 1 week of voting a tally is taken and the sweet 16 is determined. If there are ties then you will have 3 day tie breaker rounds of builds with the same number of votes. This will determine your seed in the tournament. Then what you can do is have head to head elimination via voting polls until there is one build left standing.

lol so that is how mortal kombat works. I know its not perfect but I like the thought of head to head elimination to see who is left standing. All people have to do is pick which one they would want if they had a choice between the two.

Also since prizes are donated I have no problem donating to the host a couple dollars to cover shipping or the winner has to pay shipping..... you have to pay taxes if you win the lottery so what is wrong with paying for shipping. If you can't afford it other members are very helpful around here and i feel there would be no problem getting people to throw $1-$2 to help get you your prize.

I look forward to seeing where this goes!

I kind of like the Mortal Combat tournament idea. Would "eliminate" some confusion. ;)

I am just now having a similiar problem-- When we neared the very end of two GBs for the Linna PJs we were just a few buyers short of the desired target number- so between myself and a local friend we paid for those to make all happen faster- now i find myself a little short on cash and both the SELEM event and the LSO course & exam will together set me back around $1000.

So I came up with a way to help get me by,, a quick R4ffle of one or two-of these PJs.

I WAS just going to take the extra PJs with me to SELEM and do the deal there but if that does not work out i would be out of the LSO course- so i made the offer here in thread. buy a 50$ 'ticket' and have a one in 12 chance of winning a LK PD 2.o

HOWEVER as I had planned to NOT ship the PJ (the winner at SELEM would be there so no ship) but if i sell chances there (only).
the PJ would not need to be shipped-

Insured shipping to CONUS (the only members I am allowing in this deal) would cost me with insurance and tracking around $28--

so I must edit the thread to include this.. hope all will understand

Here's an idea for the next contest: he who lights a black/brown head (unpainted) match from furthest away wins. It won't end up being highest power contest because of beam specs :)

Sounds like that could be fun. Were you thinking entrants would have to shoot a video to prove it? If you were, youd have to somehow confirm distance and make sure people use a similar focal length on the camera. Using a wide angle lens or zoomed out it will look further away than if you use a zoom, which compresses the perspective.

Maybe people would have to shoot alongside a measuring tape to confirm? You should also decide on one; a black or a brown head match, as it will make a difference. Lighting an already burnt candle ie so the wick is black, might also be an idea? Just some thoughts..:beer:

I'm extremely busy/occupied with other things at the moment, anyone wanting to take over and open up round 2 for this contest can do so, just make sure only 1 of you are doing it :)

@grainde:
I was thinking of one video from the point of view of either the match or the laser, showing the whole setup. Distance would have to be on an honor basis, cause I think we will see some pretty impressive distances :p
I think brown matches are more common, so we could go with that. There will still be variation but I suppose selecting the best match could be part of the challenge.

Candle might be too hard to achieve at any real distance.

We should also limit this to handhelds (i.e. something that runs on batteries and can be held on a single hand without any external parts).

A time limit should also be set. How about 30 seconds?

@Gun:
I'm busy with my dayjob as well but anyone can feel free to use my idea (or not) :p

Yup sounds good. What would the winning criterion be though, distance or time. You could have a few people at a slightly shorter distance lighting things quickly, whereas others might have gone for a greater distance but slower time?

Any one who does organise this should sort out the rules regulations and prizes, if there are any, and make sure shipping to the winners is organised.

There has been a bit of a mess up, despite Lazerbeaks best efforts, to try and get the winners prizes out to them from the last competition.

As far as Im aware, nobody received their prizes from Tonyt, but at least Lazerbeak :bowdown: was there to help. If anyone is interested and/or has sent money to Tonyt for shipping they should look at this thread. :beer:

I'd go for distance, else it would end up with a 3W laser lighting it instantly :p

Yeah, the rules need to be clear from the beginning. If it were my call I'd say this should be done with no prizes. Easier to organize and gives no reason for anyone to fake the distance.

Damn, I wasn't aware of all that stuff with tonyt. I never got my prize but I was blaming it on slow post offices/customs. Yeah, LB rocks :)
