I have a story...
Once upon a time, I watched kipkay's flashlight hack video.  I assumed he used the same driver as the one which came in the Aixiz housing, so I actually unsoldered the original diode and replaced it with the sony 140mW one! ha ;Dha, I was disappointed when I found out that the driver controlled the power, and the dot was a tiny bit brighter and a little more defined and better diverged, but more or less exactly the same as the 5mW!  He leaves it kind of gray, I watched it over and over till I figured out that he was going diode direct.  Well I've built two so far and abused the heck out of them and they both still work great!  I only spent $12 on the diode and I'm actually testing it to see how long it lasts.  http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1205047730 I’ve actually reconstructed it since those pictures (still no driver).

-But, it’s not a real “cool burning laser pointer” because I believe the power is around 40mW +/- (I don’t have a meter, just guesstamating!)  I’m waiting on my parts in the mail and I will make a 200mW one (with a driver).

In conclusion, I don’t hate kipkay (hating is unhealthy…but then I didn’t kill any diodes :p), but just as he needs a safety disclaimer, he should have a highly possible diode killer disclaimer, a build at your own risk disclaimer just to inform newbies, thus relieving the possibility of him being hated from those who wasted time and money to learn the hard way of what not to do.

The End.

I dislike kipkay because although he can make good gadgets he should not give advice unless he knows what he is talking about

i also don't like wl for more than one reason
He's not giving advice. He's not offering you guarantees or claiming that his way is the best way.And he's not making you do what he does. It's all homemade stuff, and if you killed a diode or two it's really your fault because you took advice from a clip off the internet. :p If you try that, you mind aswell be prepared to waste your dvd drive and everything you're risking :p

If you want a DIYer to hate look at this BS channel haha http://youtube.com/householdhacker

So if I post a clip on the internet asking all loyalists to self-detonate in the middle of London its not my fault?-Neat! Bin Laden should be dancing right now!

Sorry to blow your point out of proportion but the internet very much relies on trust- for all you know the next website you visit could kill your pc

Also are you saying that I am not allowed to hate Kip Kay???? Hitler!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Just watched household hacker- its brilliant! especially the way people got so worried about the garage door thing!

I just watched household hacker too, and some of it is hard to believe, such as powering a TV with a single AAA battery? that's only 1.5V, if it's impossible to power a laser pointer with only 1.5 Volts (you know what i mean), then how can you possibly power a TV with 1.5V?

well, i really like this guy for re-creating the Hi-Def speaker, i think he deserves a reward:

the last 8 seconds is the best!

Haha we watched this in physics last term- everyone believed it was real, I just had to hold in my laughter- to this day my A-level physics class believes a TV can be powered by 1.5V ;D

most upsettingly tho the teacher believed it! he did take a lot of convincing tho :D

That's a little different than just claiming something as there are different laws regarding each of those actions. And I would say more "risks" than "trust". ;D Maybe you trust that website not to kill your PC, but I don't.I just take that risk everyday because 0.0000001% of it happening is worth it ;D

Some of householdhackers videos are kinda believable but this one....OMG :D :D Electrycity travels through sound? Doritos bag on the LEFT SIDE? On the LEFT SIDE of a round plate?? HAHA!! "Sound always travels to the left" :D
