Ok I am gearing up for an epic build. I really want to get some members thoughts on this build, but I don't want to unveil to much no, no, no.

So here some hints, it's a variant of one of my past builds and it's also going to be in a maglite.

Here is where my poll question starts, I'm going to do an extended heatsink for sure, but should I have the drivers and some other goodies that are usually hidden in the head of the host or let them hang out? Personally it would be easier to build it on the outside and would look so schweet, however if this look is not desirable please post as to why... as you would have guessed I'm very style challenged this my wife would have you believe:)

Thanks for your input and I'm just close to starting this so once I get some details ironed out it's a go.

I wouldn't put the drivers outside the host, too easy to have them damaged, It would be cool to have wires coming out and back into the host though, Maybe you can have a pocket machined out of the outside of the heatsink and put the drivers behind an acrylic or lexan window?

Hide it!! Keep it clean, and make em wonder why it's performing so well. (Staying so cool ;))

Inside! Wires and drivers exposed? You are asking to replace them weekly when they get damaged. There is a reason no one has ever done it and no flashlight builders do it; its not practical. If you want to show them then you need to use a clear host that will protect them and allow them to still be seen

Style challenged? Tell that wife of yours you are creating a challenging new style. Show us the guts.

How is having the guts exposed winning?

Its like asking to have your laser broken IMO

What do you think I was planning on ducktaping the driver to the host.:na: trust me either way preliminary testing is showing promising results so right now I'm leaning on the outside or guts out.

I have often considered doing a build with an acrylic window to show the innards of the laser with regards to the circuitry. I don't care for mag builds but I do like the idea of showing the circuitry in a way.
