I voted cross that bridge if/when I get there, but there's about a 90% chance I would not return.

I would return but i would not post as much, more along the lines of just lurking and the occasional peep, after some time i would move on and be back to normal to many good guys and girl here to stay away for long.

I don't know... this whole temp ban thing with Jerry is very unsettling to me. The level of drama on LPF has risen dramatically over the past few months, up to a point where many threads just degenerate into pissing contests. Why don't we ll try to get along? :(

To answer the question, I'm not sure. I dearly love LPF and all of its strange little creatures, but being a non-confrontational person, it would take a hell of a lot to get me banned and at that point, I think the damage to my reputation and ego would be irreparable and i'd just move on to something else.

It would very much depend on the reason for the ban. If it was because I lost control and needed a "time out" I would definitely return. ALL people loose their cool. I, am a people. Sometimes I need to take a walk in the air for awhile so that I can return to the happy-go-lucky fella I usually am.

If it was because the forum or forum admin was shutting off discussion about an injustice, I would not want to be there anyway

There are probably 400 other scenarios which would require a different set of thoughts before deciding.

It all depends on what it was for? was it a ban because I had it out with one or two members? probably yes.
If it was something that dealt with a large number of members, maybe not.
Or if I felt I was being unfairly picked on.

Another big factor would be, how soon could the other party put it behind them. Was my reason for banning one that could be let go, by other members? If I thought it was something that they would always harp on me about. I again would have to give coming back a second thought.

You hit the nail right squair on the head with this one Robert I agree 110%
I think I would def come back unless I had done some great injustice to someone that caused them to loose an eye or an arm or a leg or something realy serious like that !
Other wise isn't it all just words ;) how dose that sticks and stones thing go ?

Peace All...

I don't like how it shows "banned" rather than "on probation" or some other status that indicates that it is temporary. The ban, temporary or permanent, should also have public supporting documentation not least of all so the person who is banned (should it be temporary), knows what the bannable offense was. Some probation offenses should also not contribute to "strikes" but rather be used as a means to cool down the "drama" before it escalates.

Finally, I really dislike the idea that people put up polls for "should we ban so-and-so" and that those polls carry any weight at all. It should not be a bannable offense to simply be disliked by people, for opinions or whatever. Some people are indeed trolls, but others just have that ability to rub soft-skinned people the wrong way. This isn't a kindergarten; we should expect people to be able to stand some flak.

We don't use ban polls any longer.

I would return, temp bans are usually only the result of drama and lost tempers - nothing serious enough to warrant leaving a forum for good.

Looks like someone might be in luuuuuurve ;)

Seriously, it's all circumstantial - - there's no hard-and-fast rule. If it were admin unfairness, I'd probably move on and create a "splinter sect" forum out of self-righteousness ;) . If it was a legit ban, then I'd take it on the chin. If it was due to drama, I'd have to think carefully.

I notice that Jerry's rep is showing zero at the moment. Is that an automatic symptom of a temp ban for the duration of it, or is it permanent removal?

[Edit: How does a ban work. Is the member just gagged from posting or totally not allowed to even see the site? Not planning on find out myself but just curious.]
