Soldering irons are much easier to control around small components.

It depends what I'm soldering... If it's a thick heavy pipe for plumbing I'll want to use a soldering gun or a blowtorch... On the other hand if I'm soldering sensitive electronics, there's no way I'll use a soldering gun or blowtorch, an adjustable low wattage iron is the only sane choice.

I didn't even know that soldering guns existed. Although I'm not skilled, a soldering iron seems easy and effective for me :D

It depend on what you want to do.... Each tool has it's purpose...

That's like asking "what do you prefer a Butane Lighter or an Acetylene Torch"...

When I was new to the hobby I used a 100 watt soldering gun that I found in my basement for soldering laser diodes. I found the $7 iron I bought from RS to be much more effective. ;)

Soldering iron for me, although i have only used a soldering gun a few times and found it to be pretty good, pull trigger and it heats up quickly, let go trigger and it cools down fast too making it useful if (like me) you are prone to putting your iron down anywhere but in its holder... sniff sniff whats burning? :D , but i feel more confident with the standard pen like soldering iron.

I have one of those, works great when there is no electricity nearby easy to manipulate too. I do enjoy my Weller adjustable station best.
