just want to see what type of chat you guys want

personally i think it makes most sense to NOT embed the chat directly in the forum homepage, because it would need to go on the bottom somewhere, and might cause extra stress on the forum and slowness loading the main page

i would be in favor of option 2. i am not a fan of java personally. if we just do a regular chat that is not java based (e.g. html page that refreshes quickly and neatly), it will be more efficient than java , but it wouldn't be part of #laserchat. that is the only downside to not using java based solution

in a sec i will post a link for you guys of an example non-java based chat that we could use.

here is a link to an example chat we could use:

http://deeptide.com/lpf/phpMyChat.php3

feel free to experiment around with this solution and let me know what you guys think. if its good we could then post a link on the top of the forum to this chat.

happy to help

regards

would it be OK if the live chat was not embedded directly in the site, but could be accessed by clicking a link that opened the chat in a new window?
you mentioned this in the other thread. This sounds just fine to me! as long as the link is noticeable. And as long as your not talking about IRC #laserchat. It's always down, atleast for me lol

im not sure which option to select. Personally i would like it embedded in the page, but my second choice would be a new window that doesnt use #Laserchat, and doesnt require any signing in. If possible, it could just use our LPF accounts, but that may be a bit of work.

embedded! i hate new windows.

as long as it doesnt take it too much to load...and its not too big nor too small :)

but i think it could eliminate some new newbies threads that are created to ask just one Q :)

LE's embed IM doesnt slow down the site at all, i dont see what's wrong with an embed IM like that, as long as it doesnt take long to load.

awesome! its just what i wanted! i noticed you added a "shout count" on our profiles too.
good job cold!
perhaps being at the top right or left of the page would be more noticable.

If possible, you should show the Time next to our names, so we know when someone last said something.
