What nice things have you done for others today?

Hello everyone!

While at work I was just thinking about what kinds of nice things you guys do for others. So I figured I'd ask! I'm interested in seeing how many nice things you guys did "today".

So far, I bought the last energy drink from the vending machine at work. Well I already drank one and still feel a bit tired and iffy overall. Anyway, I was about ready to head back to my station when another coworker I know pretty well asked me where I got my energy drink from because the machine was out.. Well I said... "Oh.. this was the last one sorry." We joked around a little and long story short. I ended up selling my drink to him for the money I paid since he needed it more than me.

So guys and girls of this forum. What nice things have YOU done today for others

I figure if people see this thread then maybe it will encourage a few people to do just a FEW more nice things for others today and hopefully more often and share them with the rest of the forum. I really don't care if you guys let the clerk keep the change or held the door for someone. I want to hear about it

one of the nice things i do allot is buy those newspapers from the homeless. they only cost a dollar. and they always are very thankful

My little sister (who sadly has to live with our mom...) misses me and I'm gonna go see her today. Not sure if it counts within the family though. Also I think it's nice how so many of us wake up daily and manage NOT to go all grand theft auto at the nearest busy intersection. lol

I work at a well known high end grocery chain. I LOVE making customers happy. Funny thing is, they made me happy yesterday, and that made my day.
So I guess whatever I'm doing, it's putting out a positive vibe.
Karma dudes. It's real.

Maybe a bit of a stretch here but....
Last night a big storm blew through this way and my power went out around 3:30 A.M.
As luck would have it, I had been up since midnight because of the storm. All my battery back-ups have alarms and the high winds causing brown-outs triggers them. For cost savings, most automatically turn back on when the power returns so you effectively can't turn them off !
My son wakes up at the same time every day so he bounced out of bed at the regular 6:30. (I don't recall ever having all that energy when I was young.) The strangeness of the place without power only heightening his enthusiasm. The lack of morning TV for distraction heightening my anxiety. NOTE TO ALL. Don't give young children their own super-bright flashlights unless you like to "tan" the insides of your own tired eyes...
I might mention that my townhome is completely electrically heated and also uses electric hot water. The water tank is at the end of the longest runs of uninsulated pipe.(They didn't insulate them back in the early 70s and my award winning designer place actually runs them through cavities vented to the outside !) So no HOT water for washing. If you go to the basement and use the laundry tub faucets you can get really warm water for about 10 minutes. After that the cold water refilling the tank cools it all down pretty quickly.
As my good deed, I boiled a big pot of water on the bar-b-q side burner to wash myself before coming to work. Thus going through extra measures to save the available warm water for the wife and kid while "freshening" myself up for my co-workers.

BTW. The power came back on as I was going out the door for work. Damn.

Helped a chinese student setup her laptop to use around the university campus.

Hmm, does not cutting off a jerk who cut me off first on the highway count?

Left change after picking up a cup of coffee as tip... again not much, but better than nothing I guess.

Last night dug through my apartment to find books for uncle who is an avid sci-fi reader(as am I), and who just had an accident so he's laid up for a while with nothing to do.

Also gave him some computer advice while I was over there.

Over the weekend babysat my brother's dog so he could surprise his wife for her birthday.

that reminds me a good practice IMO of mine is i always donate my change (only the coins) to those charity boxes in McDonalds and publix etc. TBH i just hope it doesnt get pocketed :undecided:

I am a manager where i work, So i let the new guy do whatever he wants on the first few days of his job.. i am used to scolding a lot.. does that count ?

I helped my mom clean the house today. I gave some random guy a ride who was out of gas yesterday.

I was on a service call with one of my biker buddies today.
We were coming home after a rough couple of hours and got
stuck in traffic.
A Moron decided to show us how tough he was by cutting
us off in slow to non moving traffic... (not too bright IMO)

It took all of my might to stop my buddy from kicking the
crap out of the Jerk...

That was my BA for the day....
BTW BA in Quebec means Bon Action or Good Action...

Decided not file a written complaint about australia post carding my letterbox for the 7th parcel in a row. Australia post - we deliver - NOT!

Well driving back from my mates house tonight just when the pubs kicked out, there are many people who obviously walk home, and I think the nice thing I did for this lone woman was not run her over when she fell into the road right in front of me.

I took 1 case of chili and 1 case of green beans to the food bank to help out, there are a lot of people short on food and supplies this year. Decided to help out a little bit.

I'm the Technician / manager in a mobile (cell) phone repair shop. I do "little" things for people everyday, from helping the elderly with various woes to doing little free repairs for the locals which arent realy worth charging anything for, but build good customer relations, thus ensuring they come back.

Well, saw this thread a few days back. We've been having a LOT of bad weather here. I live at 8000ft, literally on the top of a mountain. Winding dirt roads in forests, steep grades, etc. A lot of these roads aren't very well travelled, maybe a car every 4 hours or so in the wee hours of the morning. There's also little to no cel phone coverage, just due to terrain; (part of the reason why I carry a Globalstar sat phone out here. It's saved me a few times.)

Last night we were coming home from being out and about , around midnight. Snow was very heavy and we were trying to get home as soon as we could. On one mountain curve, we noticed headlights pointing up -into the sky- from off of the embankment.

We stopped -- a guy and a girl, pretty much at a loss for what to do... it seemed that because of the white of the snow covering the road and the side of the road, these folks misjudged the edge of the road and simply fell off of it. It's easy to do, since when ti's snowing a lot, you can't follow tire tracks from previous cars, as they get covered up due to, as I mentioned, rather low traffic.

We managed to hook a tow strap to their towhooks, and with some pushing and coordinated acceleration, after a while in the cold and snow, managed to get them back up on the road. Their car likely had some frame damage -- but they were able to travel and get on their way.

I'm not so sure it counts as much of a 'good deed' because I think, in a situation like that, when you cross it and see it, it's not really "optional" for you to stop. But it can get pretty dangerous out here in the weather, and I think it's fortunate that our paths at least intersected at that time. If we had taken another route home, those folks could have been in that snowdrift for a number of hours.

So I won't say we 'saved them', I think it was fortunate that A) our paths crossed when they did and B) we happened to have a tow strap with us, and a 4WD vehicle.

If those situations hadn't lined up, it could have been a much worse night for them.
