Actually Canada Post had been one of the first mail couriers to ban Li-ion cells from mail starting back in 2007. Looks like the trend has caught on.
There has been too many occurrences of Li-ion cells exploding or catching fire due to improper packing or manufacturing issues.

I wonder, how do we get laptops that we order to us now? They have internal Li-ion cells?

Most likely boat containers to local distributors via freight companies.

Funny though, I never realized there was a ban in place, yet I have never lost a
package due to Li-ions, weather it was in or outbound packages.

Ditto, I've sent li-ions and received them, never had one package go missing. Where are we supposed to do to get Li-ions if we can get them shipped anyways? Not like we can go to a store and buy them.

I went to my local hobby shop and once asked for some 3.7v 16340's..
Guy looked at me like I was speaking Greek.. I have found none locally.

So many people shop online for a fraction of the cost, no middleman and usually
a declaration of 5$ value. Its the new 24/7 duty free shop :eg:

I think there is more chance of a laptop battery pack getting stopped over some small
orders of individual cells..

Ditto... during a localized few hour blackout last fall I killed some time at a diner before heading home, and stopped by a camping/hunting store on the way that used to have a decent flashlight selection circa 2008.

Asked the guy for 3 or 3.7v 16340 or 18650 batteries, and he looked at me like I was nuts. I told him 16340 also means rcr123a, or cr123a, (not exactly, but close enough lol) he has what looks like a light bulb moment, and brings me a single pack with an energizer cr2 battery :banghead:

For 18650's, its an easy one.. I got some nice Panasonic CGR cells from a dell laptop
battery. No the best way, but when in need....

I abused the hell out of them, had a few on my nitro buggy, they all still work, and not
one has gone nuclear :san:

Well it still works domestically, so a few guys here and some US-based companies will still work. and those outside the US won't have a problem unless buying lasers+batts from a US seller, right?
