For anyone outside the US who is thinking of buying a laser in the near future -- now is potentially the time to start buying up US dollars.

The US dollar is currently extremely low -- almost 1:1 with the AU dollar!!

From the 5-minute research I've done, some people are predicting it will continue to fall in '08 -- some are predicting the opposite. My personal feeling is that it's currently undervalued and will begin to rise soon enough.

I'm not an economics student, but I did take an economics course last semester -- I'm going ask my professor for his opinion on this.

In the mean time, what do you guys think. Will it continue to fall, or not?

I love the British pound especially when I send money to my mate SenKat to get my goodies :D

Heh, you guys should bring your british pounds down under!

I do hope the US dollar continues to freefall though -- I might be able to afford one of those Herc-500's at ~ $US 6000 :)

SORTA related....back in 1988 I did a cruise for the U.S. Navy around South America - our LAST country we stopped in was Brazil ! We hit three ports in Brazil, and at the first port, I exchanged a lot of money for the local curency at the time - "Cruzados". Anyways, to shorten my long story up - I ended up at the third port exchanging my money BACK into U.S. funds, and even though I was partying like a rock star the entire time - I ended up MAKING several hundred dollars over the volatile market at that time...made me wish I had more funds to devote to it - I would have made a KILLING !

Even although I am in the UK, a depression, increase in interest rates to lower inflation etc in the US is lethal for the world economy....as consumers & US importers will not buy anything from anyone else.....so lets hope the US economy can recover slightly and the dollar improves slightly. :-/

Don't worry about it mate -- I'm sure the US will wage another war to boost their economy ;)

Don't get me wrong here, I'm generally very pro-US... However I'm also pro-me-saving-a-bunch-of-money-due-to-low-us-dollar

woo im just waiting till au dollar is 1:1 with the us... imagine...buying ipods as cheap as the US price in AU dollars...drool...

so i was wondering

say hypothetically, the au dollar and us dollar was 1:1. and say the Au dollar vs the GBP was 3:1 and the US dollar vs the GBP was 4:1 (4 US buys one GBP).

would this situation ever exist? even something similar, where someone would be able to, say, convert their US dollars to Australian dollars, convert the AU into GBP and convert the GBP back into US and make a profit?

that would be insane

indeed... and i'd be willing to bet that the us dollar will recover -- it's a question of when.

The idea is to BUY us dollars now, while they are cheap. Convert a couple of hundred thousand AUD or GBP to USD now, wait for USD to recover, convert back and make a massive profit . :)

Of cause, if the USD does not recover (and continues to get worse) then you will take a massive loss.
