i have this weird rock thingy that is very clear and you can see through it, but it has lines and cracks all over it, inside and out. anyways, i was wondering what it was so if anybody could identify it that would be great

i know it isn't the greatest picture but you can see it good enough

here are some photos that i put the rock on paper and pointed my lasers at it

It looks like quartz or something like a crystal, infact I had two rocks like that, and when you hit them together they lit up

Yeah, looks like quartz. I have a quartz crystal that looks like that :)

Thats either quartz or calcite, and i'm thinking its calcite because quartz seems to break off into more of a classic crystal, whereas clacite breaks off into blocks like that.
Thats a really clear piece of calcite if thats what it is.

I say quartz. I have a stick just like that. It's cool how when you shine into it it highlights the cracks and stuff isn't it?

I have a stick of what daguin says is calcite. It glows pink under blu-ray.

It appears to be calcite. It is very difficult to tell what color (or even if) the specimen is fluorescing. Does it "glow" when you shine the 405nm at it?

It could also be gypsum (selenite).

the rock displays no fluorescence properties when any laser shines upon it, it just lights up what ever color laser you are using

Defocus the blu-ray as much as possible (or remove the lens) and shine it over. It could be possible that the sheer power of your bluray is making it hard to see it fluoroesce.

You can first try what VillageIdiot suggested. Sometimes the "blaze" of the laser overpowers the glow of the fluorescence. If it doesn't glow at all (unlikely with calcite), then my guess would be gypsum. There are some other tests, but the next one we would need MAY leave the crystal with a scratch on it.

Peace,
dave
