why does my "unlimited" $60 plan produce $200 phone bills??

they tell you one thing when you sign up, then grab you by the balls after.

Just Google AT&T ripoff and see what folks are saying.

maybe you could try contacting the company which supplies your telephone service and see if there is any hidden costs there. it might not be your isp that is to blame

What story does at&t give as to the $200 bill? They try to blame something for the charges no?

Just announced. Att got rid of all unlimited data plans

The new AT&T plans provide large amounts of data to enable people to enjoy their favorite online activities:

DataPlus. Provides 200 megabytes (MB) of data – for example, enough to send/receive 1,000 emails (no attachments), plus send/receive 150 emails with attachments, plus view 400 Web pages, plus post 50 photos on social media sites, plus watch 20 minutes of streaming video – for just $15 per month.** This plan, which can save customers up to 50 percent off their wireless data charges, is designed for people who primarily like to surf the web, send email and use social networking apps. If customers exceed 200 MB in a monthly billing cycle, they will receive an additional 200 MB of data usage for $15 for use in the cycle. Currently, 65 percent of AT&T smartphone customers use less than 200 MB of data per month on average.

DataPro. Provides 2 gigabytes (GB) of data – for example, enough to send/receive 10,000 emails (no attachments), plus send/receive 1,500 emails with attachments, plus view 4,000 Web pages, plus post 500 photos to social media sites, plus watch 200 minutes of streaming video – for $25 per month.** Should a customer exceed 2 GB during a billing cycle, they will receive an additional 1 GB of data for $10 for use in the cycle. Currently, 98 percent of AT&T smartphone customers use less than 2 GB of data a month on average.

Tethering. Smartphone customers – including iPhone customers – who choose the DataPro plan have the option to add tethering for an additional $20 per month. Tethering lets customers use their smartphones as a modem to provide a broadband connection for laptop computers, netbooks or other computing devices. Tethering for iPhones will be available when Apple releases iPhone OS 4 this summer.

Crap, I've had unlimited data for a while now. I will have to look at my next bill and see what changes.

I love companies... Charging for tethering is BS, the 2gb limit + overage charges still apply. If your paying for 2gb its yours to use however.
Just looked at&t data plans up, they really do only have 200mb or 2gb... They know many phone users wont reach near 2gb but when tethered you could do it easy And keep track so you don't go over. Still BS, 2gb is $25 if you will have a harder time actually reaching it... What? You want to really use 2gb? Oh that will be $45 then sucker!

BTW at&t can't and won't change your data plan if you already have unlimited.... sorry to necro-bump but I thought it was worth posting.

Their unlimited voice plan is $70. The unlimited data plan for the iPhone (except for new activation) is $30. Unlimited text is $20. Enterprise email is another $15. Obviously this does not include any international long distance and taxes (which usually run about 20%). Always check your bill for mistakes and do not hesistate to dispute possible errors. I have been with AT&T for about 15 years already (AT&T to Cingular, back to AT&T) and have been pretty happy with them.

I should have my new iPhone 4 in a week! I might get tethering later on, but I can do so much on my iPhone 3G that I don't even use my laptop that much. There are always plenty of places I can connect to via wifi. I was told the reason for limiting data was due to system capacity and the introduction of video conferencing on the iPhone 4. It will only be available via wifi for now, but that 2 GB limit will run out quick once you can video conference using the wireless network.

Too bad AT&T wireless is on my top list with Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile. But, I am using Verizon. It's the best out there!

Here in Canada, at least in Alberta, most people use Telus.
Instead of good service they use "cute animals" to hook the unwashed masses and then screw you over as hard as they can for as long as they can.
I think my "roaming" charges are $1.33/min and that is because I now live a 45 minute drive away from my "number's city".
I can't get my number changed to a local number because all of my business runs through this one.

It must be universal, telephone companies are all run by truly diabolical people.
