you dont have to agree with me ;) the stimulus package did wonders too eh?

Just remember it was not the first one...

Yeah... it sure did wonders. So much money, that was supposedly so well supervised, never disappeared so quickly.

I have the displeasure of working with the US government on a daily basis... so on both the micro and macro scale, the sheer incompetence is absolutely staggering.

All of my clients sell to the US government via the GSA. I help companies manage their GSA catalogs.

Guess how long it takes to do something like decrease prices on say some HP toner cartridges?

...At best a week.

At the same time commercial prices are adjusted every 15 minutes. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

And that's just the one area of the government I'm intimately familiar with.

They could have just given the LPF members $1 mil each and we could have stimulated the laser market.

If you do that math, figuring on about 300 million people being in the US...

The stimulus plan came out to be about $2500 per PERSON.

I certainly don't remember receiving a check like that...

It's just absolutely mind boggling the kind of waste that the US government is able to get away with on a daily basis.

Personally I always wonder if maybe we'd be better off without a centralized government at all, rather just a police/judicial entity to maintain basic law and order.

Of course the flip side to all this, and this is the :tinfoil: side of things... is that there are quite a few people who always profit no matter what. They also happen to be the .1%.

Hmm, now that I think about it, I did get a check from the bush plan... don't remember how much it was... wasn't much, but it was something in my pocket... as opposed to some nebulous greater good of infrastructure.

The single biggest problem with the government we have, is the lack of accountability.

Imagine if an official online voting system was setup. If you get 30 million voters to agree that someone f*cked up, a death squad goes after said person.

I'm betting that would cause some changes.

Of course that's a rather extreme approach. Unfortunately in the meantime the political system is setup in such a way as to make government immune to votes.

Research redistricting... it's use effectively nullifies votes. I who the hell thought it was a good idea to allow politicians to choose who votes for them.

It's akin to allowing people to select a jury of their friends and family when going on trial... invalidates the whole process.

If there was a serious need to jump start the economy... how about ending a couple of wars... such as say on drugs and terrorism. Would pump trillions in fast.

No matter how much time I spend discussing the problems, it always seems to boil down to accountability... or lack there of. I mean think about it, if there was ZERO risk of you getting pulled over for speeding... would you speed? At first maybe not, but eventually you would. All the time.

There is currently a discussion in congress over whether insider trading by congressional members is ok or not. Obviously he's a fictional character, but let's imagine how Gordon Gecko would regulate himself.... he wouldn't.

Governments should fear their citizens. Not the other way around.

^^^ I have a good friend that retired last year, he was a U.S. marshal. He said that if the feds would legalize pot and regulate it like they do alcohol it would make a lot of money. Instead they spending millions and not even making a dent in the marijuana market. They could be making millions, but you have all of the tight asses stopping it.

Of course not.

There was this prohibition thing back in the 1920's... where a clearly desired, and often consumed substance was banned.

Interesting how that turned out.

But who needs to learn from history when you have people like Rick Perry with god and right on his side?

I would rather burn one than have a drink. Oh who am I kidding "there is nothing like a cold one and a rolled one"

Like the saying goes "Doobie unto others before they doobie unto you!"

I never smoked marijuana! (bong hits don't count)

edit: Forgot one " A friend with weed, is a friend indeed!"
