Resume Question for you all

Ok. So.

I've got an internship lined up for the summer. I'll be doing embedded systems programming/prototyping for Vishay R&D. But here's the deal: I've got to be applying for part time work again in the Fall. The research project at LANE was put on hold, so now I'm back to revising my resume.

Is it ok to put pending experience on your resume?

Given that the Vishay internship has not yet begun, and that I will not really be in town during the summer to start throwing my resume around, I'm trying to take the time to apply for work now. But is putting

"Internship at Vishay Beginning May 2013 through August 2013"

a bad thing to tell employers?

I want to put it on there, but by the time the internship is finished, it will really be too late to start applying for jobs around town/or campus for similar embedded programming. I thought it might convey

"I'm a wanted worker"

"People hire me"

but perhaps instead it may convey

"I'm pretentious"

"I'm full of myself"

"I fluff up everything else on my resume"

What would you guys do?

Employers, do you consider this fair game for a resume?

Thanks all! I greatly value your input.

I say go for it! maybe give a very brief description of your work there or job title. As long as it's something you know you know 100% that your going to do.

That shouldn't be considered fluff, basically your telling them why your not available to start work for them tomorrow. :gj:

Edit: I put my internships on my resume, so why not tell what your gonna do before you'll work for who your applying for?

I was doing the job search thing last year and I would say you can put it on your resume. Hell, it will probably be summer by the time they get to looking at it haha.

There are no hard and fast rules to making a resume except: every resume you care about sending should be custom-made to cater to the specific interests of the employer.

For your specific question, it's perfectly fine to add that. I'd simply state something like "to be performed XXX to YYY 2013, or "will be completed by XXX" so that they know that it's lined up.

The worst thing that can happen is that they won't care.

(or that you wasted the space that could be taken by other things, but barring that... )

Chances are, however, that they'll be pleased to see that you've got other, relevant, things lined up in the mean-time. Remember also that you're a student, and these things aren't going to count against you.

Thank you for that input guys - I appreciate it. This one's definitely being catered to employer. Wish me luck in finding more work as a student!

As long as you don't expect to be hired before august, that's a good thing to add. Otherwise it might come across as "I'm busy with other things right now."
