rep points-WTF?

So, I just got back from a weekend of moving furniture, and my rep appears to have been majorly screwed in the butt while I was gone. Maybe I don't understand the rep system, but what the heck happened? I recently had over 2000 rep points and a bunch of green and light green squares, along with 23 rep power. Now I have like 245 rep points and 6 rep power. Could someone please explain to me how this works? There appear to be no negative rep comments on my page, only positive ones. Are the negative ones hidden, so someone majorly -repped me? If anyone could enlighten me, that would be great.

Most points are given for minimal reason like for posting " GREAT PICTURES" :-(
I have a life without points.
Ignore points and become a contributor by testing a 12 x and posting results.

OK ---
There are those of us who get rep points by promoting the hobby and those who get points by promoting themselves. If you take Dave's points --- He's still the same guy. Everyone respects him and others in the same status.
There are those on here who do build, test and supply information and those who only regurgitate the information of others. The appliance opperators seldom provide info for advancing our knowledge.

COLD -- Give all my points to ossumguywill. He really wants them. I will still be the same cowboy with zero points and I have a 12x coming on Wednesday.

HMike, you are like jesus dying on the cross for our low rep points. You are truly selfless, but don't you find it at all fun to build up rep points? It's not crucial, but it keeps people motivated to act well and not like assholes. Plus, it lets people know who to buy from and who to sell to. And congrats on the 12x, it must be amazing.

I will Never compare myself to Jesus --ever --- I am not a martyr.
NO -- My fun is in the science and interfacing with those pushing this hobby to the limits. There are a few of us here who over the last 3 years have dumped thousands of dollars into buying and testing the new diodes and I know who we are. We don't need no fuxx'n POINTS.

I disagree- you are offering yourself as a points martyr, so maybe not exactly like jesus but a bit similar

you are also pretty similar in that you're pretty humble. And I can't wait until I can afford to dump real cash into lasers, it will be AWESOME.

I can see some logic in that... I too worked hard to build my rep points by
being helpful an honest...

Having my rep point stripped away (by a mistake) and then arbitrarily
increased/added by the admin as though they meant nothing makes
me step back and analyze the value of those earned Rep Points my
position an meaning and value of this Forum's Rep system......

Are the Rep Points even worth the effort...:thinking:

I have not been active on the Forum since the Rep points fiasco caused
by a new member's rep power with only 40 posts...

I used to be in the third position in the Rep Ranking... now I am 19th
with a lot of the Newer Members way ahead of me...

Maybe it's a wake up call...

............... It's late and I'm tired...............

I am contemplating all this and making choices as we we speak...

@Mike: I'm sorry I'm not able to waste thousands of dollars in lasers but that's mainly because I don't even have them. I'm 18 and I just started in the university, so for now all I can do for the hobby is to "regurgitate" the info, I'm sorry if my work doesn't seem fair for you...

Honestly I didn't want to sound assholish or anything like that, I was more in a "I'm offended" attitude than in a "fuck you" one, you know. Dave once told me that it's a matter of my native language, it seems that I sound rude in English because the way we speak here would sound rude to you. Just like when you hear a Russian guy, it seems they're always discussing hehe

Where's the exact point in which I sound rude? I really would like to know!
