get an empty coffee can and some candles. Chop up the candles and fill the coffee can up until it's about 1/3 to half full. take the can outside and make a small fire, then put the coffee can over the fire. when the wax starts to boil, pour some water onto it. Make sure you aren't near the fire when you do this, either by using a hose, or tieing a cup to the end of a stick, or something else. When the water hits the boiling wax, it will make a pretty decent sized fireball shoot up into the air.

Wes: why not just buy it on Ebay?

EDIT: I can imagine the advertisements for KNO3: "Removes every possible kind of stump (Yes, even THAT one)."

Stump removers sometimes have special fillers that retard the oxidizing nature of KNO3... Go to your local farm supply store and buy 13-0-46 fertilizer. It's essentially potassium nitrate with a bunch of other crap mixed in to prevent it from being used as an explosive. You can remove these impurities by recrystallization...

Yeah but Kno3 is in a way the opposite of viagra, so they will think i have a problem keep it down lmao !

Where did you get that info? That doesn't sound right at all.

Organic nitrates are used to treat cardiovascular diseases by inducing vasodilation (decreased resistance in arteries to increase flow) and decreasing blood pressure and thus work by the heart. Viagra works by inducing vasodilation to the vessels "down there" to increase flow of blood, which gets trapped due to contriction of other vessels by mechanical and chemical means.

From what I can find, inorganic nitrates don't have the same actions as the organic forms, but are typically converted to nitrates in the body, which may go on to increase levels of nitric oxide, which is a potent vasodilator and actually part of the mechanism of action for Viagra.

Rkc- KNO3, potassium nitrate, Salt PETER has a long tradition of keeping sailors well, uhh, sorta , you know "down" during long trips. :-( Some sailors added a pinch of black powder to their diets every day. The little blue pill works on a different level I think...

I never heard of that before. I guess the reason I didn't come across that before is because I was searching for "potassium nitrate" rather than "salt peter". But, it doesn't look like it actually has a medical basis, and may just be myth:

http://www.snopes.com/military/saltpeter.asp

Nitrates are also commonly used as meat preservatives (check out your sausages and dried meats, they'll likely have nitrates or nitrites in them). If they were in the food of military, most likely they were used as preservatives. Their consumption is also linked to an increase incidence of GI cancers and can cause a methemoglobinemia in high amounts (like if you ingested KNO3 directly), which basically decreases (temporarily) your blood's ability to carry oxygen. KNO3 is also used in small concentrations (like Sensodyne toothpaste) to reduce sensitivity of teeth to temperature, but that is hypothesized to have more to do with the potassium ions rather than nitrate.

Cool to hear, I am also into these things myself.. but there is almost nothing left to play around with now, the strongest oxidizers I can get my hands on are 20% and barely work at all. I used to make bottle rockets, smoke bombs and suns but now I am reduced to acid+aluminium bottle bombs and baking soda+vinegar bombs. They have really cut back on everything.
@ styropyro
I am the proud owner of 2 combustion spud guns and one pneumatic launcher! You really have to build a pneumatic one, they are absolutely brilliant! With a pressure gauge, safety pop-off valve, custom paint job and a record potato launch of 190 metres this thing is really PIMP :D
