Yes, I got it. I'm still deciding what to do. I saw that Magic Switch. Does that use a boot disk? I like the idea of having all the game back ups on one hard drive. But there is so much crap out there it is hard to figure out what is BS and what is not.

Look Tech Junkie, I know about this stuff. I've done this years ago. I have a lot of experience and repairs with PS2 PS3 Xbox Xbox360 and PSPs.

What does that do?

Ok with this program installed on your USB harddrive you use the HDD loader CD and you can use Codebreaker cheats and play your games all on the HDD. You will have to get a harddrive enclosure that is compatible with the PS2 and that can be easily found on the mod chip store dot com. It has to have a USB connection if you have a slim. If you have a fat you can just use a plain old 3.5 harddrive with the Network adapter which I so happen to have a spare one. So its all relatively easy.

Neither. My GF told me she would buy me one. So I'm checking out all options before we buy. I want original disks, but I like the idea of being able to play back ups. I had PS1 and the disks got trashed. Plus if I can load the back ups all on a hard disk it would be a plus. So I want to mod it to play games on a HHD without putting a chip in. Is this possible?

Yes with the HDD loader as I showed you. The file I gave you a link to goes on the HDD itself so no need to open it. If you want to make it all easy on yourself get the Phat version because its as simple as plug and play. The network adapter I have for you can fit in a regular 3.5 hdd inside of the ps2. Just buy a cheap inexpensive Hdd loader disc. You will be able to backup your discs when you run the program. Its better to get the Phat one if you don't mind the minor size difference, alrighty?

Cool, I'll see if I can find one for a good price and I'll get back to you. I know she wants to use her Radio Shack card. I just dont know if they sell the phat version.

Yeah I checked the website. They only list the slim version. You could try gamestop but then again your GF is paying with her RadioShack Card. Well its not difficult either way cause the PS2slim connects with a USB external HDD. I already downloaded that program for you. You will then have to buy this USB eXtreme External USB Hard Drive Loader for ALL PS2 and PSTwo Slimline consoles / ModChipStore.com

And an external HDD compatible for the PS2 slim. Here is the compatibility lists for ya HDAdvance - The ultimate Game Storage Solution for the Playstation 2

Ok you lost me. Do I use CodeBreaker, or eXtreme loader?

Strange..I would have thought any external HDD would work. I wonder what makes one compatible and one not.

Well all you need for the slim is the HDD loaders USB Extreme. That ones for the slim version. You don't need the code breaker but if you wanted to play with cheats you could just put that file in the harddrive but its not needed. I'm not sure what makes certain harddrives compatible or not. But the list shows what does work and they are reported by people who own them. Here Ill list the things you would need.

PS2 phat:
1 HDD Loader
2 Any 3.5 harddrive
3 Sony PS2 network adapter

PS2 slim:
1 USB Extreme
2 USB harddive. (check compatibility list to avoid buying an incompatible harddrive)

So with these I can make and load back ups to the HDD from my original disks?

Sorry I'm a n00b with all the new game technology. When I met my GF I didnt have time to play games anymore. Now I have the time.

BTW I own you a +rep. I cant give you one now 'cause it takes time before I can you rep again. But I never forget. Ask Bobhaha.

Cool the good rep would turn my red laser dot into a green laser dot.
When it comes to videogame systems I'm the man... well one of them anyway.
About your GF... does that mean you two are pretty much used to each other now?

Hey if you ever want to get a PS3 I can repair (oddly enough) Laser read errors. I bought the ones I worked on on ebay for about 125 and replaced the laser lens for about 60 bucks. Very nice gaming system. Oh and about the Wii... if you like that one... has been hacked to tears haha.
Now for the Xbox 360(the hardest to work on) I had to do repairs for the cold solder points on the motherboards with a heatgun. The Xclamps that come with it suck. The solder doesn't contain lead and it breaks easy. I am able to flash the drive with custom firmware as well as make 120gig drives that work. It requires hacking a certain drive.

Wow I didn't know I could do all of those things... yikes.

Cool. I'll have to see if my external is compatible.

Edit: No...not tired of each other yet. I'm disabled so I have a lot of free time. So instead of lurking here for hours I can play some games.

Yes yes. thats apart of the USB Extremes software. If not, by some weird instance, I can send you the Isos of the ones you own. Easy to download.
