posi-trac in the rain

does anyone on here have a car/truck with positive traction? it seems to be very hard to keep the back tires from spinning or sliding when the road is wet or sandy :-/

both my cars are have posi :'( it's hard to drive on wet pavement or icy pavement. barely touch the gas and suddenly I'm sideways I get pulled over all the time because cops here car tell the difference between a car squealing the tires because they are stomping down on the gas and a guy just making a turn and his inner tire is bouncing because he has posi trac :-/ though in a straight line I have double the traction ;D

Don't mustangs have limited slip? what kind of mustang do you have?

I always have a car with a posi in it to me its a must yes going around a corner
it will get crazy and you will lose it if not carefull -my 75 trans am used to do that all the time my 67 el-camino also but my 2004 mustang has stability control
and prevents this from happening Unless i disengage it -but yea if you over power a car with o posi while turning a corner you will go spinnng in circles -I love it

a 460cu in V8 in an f150 will get the back tires spinning easily ;D though it's hard to control going around a corner. I also have a 1969 AMC Rambler S/C with a 390cu in engine in it ;D though thats in storage and probably will never leave until 2069 so I can sell it for tons of money :D I haven't ever seen another one in person so I guess it's kinda rare, just hope it's worth money :)

yea its got the same as a F150 an 8.8 posi mine has 3:27 ratio
its a 2004 gt ;D

is your rear end just welded? i would recommend getting a limited slip.

i have limited slip in my car (1995 bmw 318ti) and its a blast when i want it to be.

its nice to have ant its deff nice to not always have.

i have driven 4 wheel drives with welded rear ends and i can say it can get quite annoying havign a welded rear end.

From what I understand posi-trac is basically just a GM version of an LSD. Or at the very least does the same job. Power to both wheels under accel.

Yeah they can get hairy :) Even in 4wd LSD front and back can provide hours of fun...damn I miss the scooby :-/

it's not welded it came from the factory that way...i think... it's 4wd with warn lockers on the front i have 33 inch mud boggers on it atm

You might want to convert to LSD, that's what I had in my 1992 Nissan 300zx TT w/ 380hp, (was only boosting 11psi) I could only imagine how that would be with posi-traction! Well, you know you have a drift monster with that set up! :eek: There's really nothing you can do, except for maybe hold the E brake just a little (AFTER THE COMPLETE STOP) around those wet corners and accell VERY softly...

oh it drifts even when I don't want it ;D I just know how to control it to a certain extent depending on the condition of the road (roads in detroit are the wrost I have ever seen and I lived on a dirt road in the country for a while) if there aren't ant pot holes or man holes I'm fine or if its just a cement slab instead of pavement It slides even when I don't touch the gas and I'm only going 15-20mph. I don't have the extra $1200 to spend to change it out (may not cost that just for the diff. but if I change that out I would end up changeing out the driveshaft, u joints, maybe front differential, maybe just everything :-/) except the engine and tranny...those are new ;D

two tires putting power down = more traction than just one.

Lay off the gas, man! I have a 300whp supercharged/nitroused (thats 300hp without the nitrous... btw) thunderbird with 'posi' (positraction is actually just GM's term for limited slip differential) and it does fine in the rain. It also has tires on it that are not meant for rain whatsoever...
