 Crap! now I owe him $20 :yabbem:

I am both happy and dismayed at the incompetence of my own countries customs officers... I shall never watch "Border Patrol" again :cryyy:

haha woo!

They shipped them all together with each piece of the cannon individually wrapped and the receipt had the company name and parrs list was blacked out with permo marker, also on the description of the goods was "Novelty Salute Parts" :)

Dont say that Border Patrol rulez!

Wow
"Novelty Salute Parts" and "Star Wars Jedi Props"... remind me to talk to you when I want to smuggle something in next time

Hey, I'll make it $40 if you can get 2kg of cocaine and a small thermonuclear device into the country for me disguised as "baby powder" and "medical equipment" or something

Hey Fiddy, have you fired one of your cannons yet?

What are you using as a charge? did you end up going with the powder out of flares or the ramset charges?

I remember I found a full box of ramset charges. I then preceeded to have fun with them. I carefully removed the waxy wadding from the end, placed one on the concrete, tilted it up a bit so some of the powder made a powder trail fuze, and lit it. The powder trail would burn into the casing, reach the initiator, which would then detonate with a resounding bang.

Further down the track (when you could still buy bullets and shells in the sporting goods department), I got some 12 gua ammo. Did the same thing. Got the shell open with a pocket knife carefully, removed the buckshot, made a powdertrail fuze and lit her up. Needless to say shotgun powder burns quicker than ramset charge powder, and it went BOOM. My ears were ringing, and I only did one. I put them away until I discovered potassium permagenate and glycerin - the poor mans slow delay initiator. Gave me heaps of time to get well back and not be deafened by the bang the initiator in the shell produced. 22 round's also make a good bang as well. For those I'd grasp the shell, and remove the bullet with a pair of needlenose and repeat the above performance. The shotgun shells were the loudest.

Then I discovered what fun can be had with sparklers.... lots of sparklers... in a confined space (can you say KABOOOOM!) ;)

Anyway back o/t, I want one of these cannons just to sit next to my computer or TV. They simply look cool, let alone the fact that they are an actual working cannon :)

yeah I just ordered 2 of them - one with the blue base and stainless gear, and one with a black base and brass gear.

I have some road flares to use as propellant charge, just need to make some fuzes.

Where do I buy BB ammo from?

Is launching model rockets illegal there too? If you can get your hands on the disposable motors, they are made from black powder.

BBs are just .177 diameter ball bearings.

Are aerial emergency flares for boating regulated?

oh nice! it comes with 3x ball bearings, they are .30cal so all you need to do is find ones that are similar size!

@fiddy how heavy are one of those bad boys.

not sure, probably about 100g's? thats jsut a guess.

Good thinking T_Warne - and the electrical ignitors can be used to set off the charge, thus negating needing to get fuses. I'm pretty sure the model shops sell the "detonators" in packs of 20, and the engines with 3 dets in packs of 3. One engine (C size) would last for ages when used with this cannon. I recall having a pack of the dets in my launch box as there is always going to be a misfire one day and then your up an engine without a way to ignite it.

you will need to insulate the igniters electrically from the metal cannon body so they don't short out.

yep - the insulation off speaker wire will do that nicely. Dont use heatshrink - the heat when shrinking it will travel down the leads and set off the ignitor prematurely.

You can still get marine flares and small rocket motors here. Although i havent looked since the fireworks ban.

.30 calibre? Omg you could take out the neighbours pets with that (if you could hit them, i doubt it is even vaugley accurate).

You could get a. 30 call mould and make your own lead balls. No1 buckshot is 0.30" if you can get hold of some.

Take out the neighbours pet *insert arduino here*. "Computer, lock weapons on the cat" <<insert hydraulic motor noise (yes for a tiny cannon. Gotta have hydraulic motor noises>> "This is the last time you wake me up at 4am meowing Fluffy! Computer, FIRE!" :)
