Don't do the aluminum foil thing, it'd be the same as touching the globe's glass and at the same time touching metal connected to the ground with your other hand. Not cool at all, I have experienced it and lived to tell you it's not a good idea :p

how do you drive them? I was not successful in building a driver for my monitor CRT

The lifter or the flyback? Or did you want to drive the cathode ray tube for a diy x-ray machine?  ;)

I thought they had a bulb, maybe I'm confused about the internals, I'll do some research when I give this final today at 7pm :p
