No more PORN in the UK

Heh... actually, currently, one of the dirty little "secrets" about cell phone companies, is you end up paying about 8-12% straight to the government in taxes, on top of the action declared shown taxes and fees.

I don't even get the option of cable service out here. We've requested it multiple times but the company refuses to run the line down our street citing "not enough potential customers to offset installation costs". I also don't get broadcast TV out here, just isn't enough signal even with a booster/amp. If I want to watch something it HAS to be done online, and I'm paying $70/mo for 15mbps down / 2mbps up DSL with no faster option available.

Part of me is kind of hoping that if they do censor the internet that the sudden rise in bored youth will revolt. Nothing keeps the status quo and current government in power much like placating the masses; it is when the people have nothing better to do or to keep them satisfied that they start to pose a threat. Frankly I'm surprised the govt's even went as far as they have with the porn issue, you'd think they'd want to keep people placated. You know what they say about idle hands...

I just use my own mirror.

That's not a terrible speed, but not great either. I get ~15-20mbps downloads, and upload speed is around 3-5mpbs. $55 per month. There are faster options though.

What I think is kind of a rip off, is you, and I both pay taxes specifically to fund rural electrification. Why the hell doesn't that include cable/fiber when basically all of the US has long since been electrified.

About the porn ban.... porn has absolutely nothing to do with it. The whole "think of the children" bs is a red herring, once it goes to a national level. It may have started that way due to the daughter of the woman killed, and her pushing for it, but at this point, with Cameron pushing for it, it's much much more.

What will be done is there will be an outcry, and this bill will be pulled back.

A temporary victory, because after there will be a number of smaller changes, all innocuous by themselves, but combined they will amount to blatant censorship.

Seriously though, whatever floats your boat... the world could do with more people letting go of their hang ups and doing thing they enjoy. Just so long as you're not hurting anyone, or forcing others to do it who cares?
