Re: A new mill/lathe.

Yeah they are nice and heavy we were thinking of the workroom in the basement. But I'm not sure if it's practical moving 700 lbs down the stairs. It may go in the garage too! But these mills are great, you can really do a lot on them and we have a bunch of projects for it! Thanks,

Re: A new mill/lathe.

My own saying on this is that if 2 people cannot easly handle and move the machine, do not carry it on stairs. best leave it in the garage. in the garage we had an engine jack/hoist to help us out.. that wont fit on the stairs though :p

I would suggest you get seperate mill and lathe if you want both and have the room for it and if your set on puting it in the basement, I think this is the best way to move it around too.

Oh trust me we like the machine you have. We have moved heavy stuff before and we could go through the trouble of supporting the stairs we'll just have to see what seems best when we get it!

Re: A new mill/lathe.

Id have to agree with 2 separate machines if you plan on going up or down stairs with it..

My lathe is nothing to carry, heavy but its a mini and is only around 70lbs.

The mill on the other hand is just under 300lbs, and is very compact. 2 people waddling
like ducks down the stairs is interesting to watch, that is for sure..

When I sell this house, it will be going in pieces :eg: It will just be a pain to get
it set up again.

Alright, if you say you can handle it then I dont see a reason why not to get a large machine.

I will tell you this is a great machine, I just wanted to warn you of its wieght.. its never fun to drop and wreck a nice machine, or worse hurt and potentially kill yourself/others with this metal beast. Id imagine a human's flesh and bone is no match for a 700LB chunk of metal with gravity aiding it.

Just a concern, so do take care when you handle it.
