Cheers proctor ;) When i get a decent CCD i'll take some deepsky shots they take a bit more patients and know how to do. But i'm learning and i've done my baby steps with the toucam but CCD work is another ball game..

Timelord - I am stunned to say the least !  NOT that I doubted you by any means - but you sould like you really know your astronomy !    Do you have any pics to share of your sights you have seen ?  I, for one would LOVE to see them !  And what's this about Binocs for star gazing ?  My wife might like that better than a telescope if indeed you can get a nice look like you say....
Okay - I did NOT see the other page before I posted ! HOLY COW ! That is gorgeous, to say the least !

I've only done planetary work as i've only got a toucam pro webcam but my mate uses his CCD on my big scope and here's a shot of M42 orions nebula. As for your wife tell her to start with a good set of binos first then progress to a scope after

Celestron Skymaster 15x70s for astronomy or anything with that spec. But even a good set of 10x50s will easily split cleanly double stars and view star clusters well too.

I'd love to get some nebulae through my scope when I get it. I have a lens where I can use reversal mount and poke it in the eyehole and use it as macro...It might work, I don't know...that would be pretty awesome though and i'd definitely buy a cable release for my D200 so I can leave taking in light for 30 minute periods.

A cable release is essential for your camera to avoid any vibration.

Yeah I can't do bulb without it. Suprisingly that picture of the laser near orion I took was only around 2.5 seconds exposure. I do also need a scope that tracks the stars. God damn Earth has to rotate for some odd reason ;D

Proctor, sorry for jumping in...quoted you so that folks can see again your post.

SenKat, since you live in the USA, I strongly advise THIS COMPANY

Have a read yourself......highly recommended by some very reputable folks in the optics field for a budget bino!!! ;)

Sorry Proc....back to you :-X
