This a little toy I've been working on. Not laser related, more like industrial power electronics, but fun anyway. Maximum output is ~1kW. It runs off of an 18.5V LiPO pack and if you stick a 1/2" iron pipe in the coil it'll pull over 60 amps. Enjoy! (bonus points for identifying the background music) MVI 3598 - YouTube

Is that like wirelessly shorting through the metal and causing it to heat? If that is way off forgive me. I am unsure what that was, just trying to make sense of it.

Its a form of induction heater looking at it , so High frequency AC in the work coil induces eddy currents in the piece in the coil causing it to heat up

What driver system is it ?

It's induction heating. There's a resonant current at 112 kHz in the coil of about 100 amps. The eddy currents set up in any conductive (metal) item placed inside the coil heat the object.

"What driver system is it ?"

It's a royer topology. The finished unit will be a handheld pretty similar in size to a commercial product called the mini-ductor. But mine is cordless:cool:

Thought it was something like that : D , I'm guessing its the type with 2 inductors linking each side of the work coil to the DC supply ?

It's alive! Not pretty I know but I can make the case a little smaller and I think a steampunk theme would work to dress it up

Induction heaters are awesome, but the best part about this is that you are using it to heat your titanium nail! :shhh:

Also your voice sounds like some sort of cold war video narrator haha
