Enough of the off topic banter you guys...
There are only 3 or 4 posts on topic for this whole 4th page. (as displayed on my system here at work)
Let's try to keep it a bit closer to the original postings O.K.?
Not that I'm against learning about other cultures beliefs concerning the "Holiday Season" so to speak. (No SinterKlaas -spelling- references yet ?)
:p

Lol, the problem is, on topic, you're excluding all the people who are not the same as you in terms of culture and religion.

For example, I grew up in the former USSR, my ancestry is jewish, and I'm an atheist.

It's not the topic of even the name of title of the thread that needs to be adhered to, but rather the spirit of it. I think all the banter so far has been in the holiday spirit, and I'll keep it up, thank you very much:na::san:

when do you expect this to actually be put into effect?

I suppose you can expect to see a thread sometime early to mid October and it will most likely close late November. This should give enough time to choose gifts and or collect money :)

Does that sound good?

Edit, for those of you who want to join and do not have the requirements, this gives you more than enough time to jump aboard. The thread you will see will be a Rules and regulations thread/signup thread. If you are a worry bug there will be plenty of time! :) There's still a few months to go!

Edit2, Also if you posted here that you are in the event. You will be automatically added to the join list. So no need to repost. Just make sure your name is there if you want to be a part of it!

"Are you even in? I still cant tell. "

I'm still sittin' on the fence on this one for the time being.
Trying to see if I can come up with an original idea that might work out. (If only I had known about this I would have picked up a second one of the 5th LPF anniversary lasers in the GB. Damn!)
I'm also suffering money problems at home as the wife hasn't had any paying work for 18 months and my son is in yet another growth spurt requiring new footwear/clothes/outerwear.
Being a picky bastard also means that I might just go for donating a gift without taking anything back. Then I get to enjoy the comments and banter in return which, in my opinion, is worth more than something collecting dust.
So I will keep monitoring the thread and ideas with no rush to join yet.

But thanks for your concern.

I'm in, sounds fun.

However, if gifts are to cross international borders, we have to take into consideration the country you are sending to;

For example if someone sent me a laser pointer, I'd probably not recieve it, and instead get an empty box with a nasty letter from customs. :gun:

So we need to keep in mind the laws in the country of destination so we dont get our forum pals in trouble for sending something considered contrband or restricted to them :)

I'm thinking that a package declared as a "gift" coming from a non-business from another country known to have their own restrictions in place for similar contraband during the gift giving rush season wouldn't likely get a second glance.
Might be the best chances of getting something.

I think that you are jumping the gun on that one.
HOW do you know that the randomly assigned name draw will end up with the person with the spare 1kW getting your name ?!?!

Is there something going on here that you aren't tellin' us ?!?

Considering the budget is ~$25 I think the secret santa should be limited strictly to same continent, if not same country.

I would rather not spend money on shipping that I can spend on a gift instead. Pretty sure this was brought up earlier in this thread or the other one.

yes and I was just kidding about the kW pointer there shorty. It was definatly meant as humor :)

also staying in country or close to is a good idea - I'd send a better gift to NZ than I would to the US simply coz the postage would get much more expensive sending to the US/Canada or Europe.

Ooooooooooooooh. I'm glad we straightened that out.
:D
Cuz Ima wanting that 1kW lazor for me !
:eg:
I've got some annoying companies that aren't providing the services I'm paying for and I think that little guy might help with a few disputes.
BESIDES, I'm sure that a 1kW wouldn't cost that much to send out to you.
But then again, as it would need to be shipped in separate components to qualify as OEM...Naw. You're right. Too expensive.
But only because of the shipping !
(Don't worry about the humorous references with me...I'm the guy who can be found snickering at funerals.)

I think a 1kw "pointer" would be a tad heavy to use as a "pointer"

Anyhoo back OT with secret santa :)
