About the 7W lasers and 220v ceiling, what has this country come to that someone can get sued and lose because someone got hurt doing something illegal? I think the Bible even says you can kill someone if they break into your house. Isn't the "it's my religion" excuse supposed to work these days? What if someone breaks in and slips on a toy car and hits his head on the corner of a coffee table? Maybe a big scary laser warning sign might keep you from getting sued, then it would be like how you can see barbed wire and still choose to climb it and get cut.

Bunker Building idea-
Soon am planing in summer or fall to have contractors build an underground bunker its bin going on almost for some time how to build it, It will be around 0.30 acres away from the house with 2 rooms and a hallway,
for my computers or call it ( Secret Research Facility )
i will install 2 sliding glass doors using finger print readers with ID cards, and outside the will be a tiny shed with 2 cameras for entrance and a lift up bottom also using finger print readers :

Any real reason or compelling need for a bunker or just a way to burn extra money because it is interesting?

Would guess adding an extension/addition to the house would make more economic sense/ add value---bunker probably not add any value?

This isn't a new concept. In fact it is quite old. Think of it this way. What is the maximum penalty for burglary? It isn't death. So, if you put up something to protect your property that is going to kill someone, it is way over the top and you are likely to get arrested and imprisoned. Well, Maybe not in Florida.

Makes sense, but the lasers probably wouldn't kill, and blindness for life could equal the loss of much of one's hard earned goods lost for life if unrecoverable. Both cases could really suck for the rest of each person's life as the one can't afford to do much of anything if they are low on money and lost their expensive work tools.

Anyway, I too have thought it cool to put a huge room under my acre lot after seeing a video of someone doing it. It is of course way too much work, and way too expensive, but think, 3000sqft house above ground, and 30,000sqft of living space below ground. I'd put a pipe organ down there and get natural reverb.

It depends on where you are, and you may have to put up warning signs and things like that. Things like electrified fences (the deadly type, not the ones that shock cows wandering from a field) are sometimes used to keep people of out places (like military bases) or in ones (like prison).

During peacetime walking into a military facility certainly is not a felony that (by itself) could get you the death penalty in any civilized country... but if you try you could get shot, electrocuted or step on a landmine regardless.

Using lasers for such purposes isn't really that practical, but sometimes you have systems in place that can be used to potentially kill burglars and such, even if they were not designed for that purpose:

Lets say you see someone break into your datacenter and messing with servers in the server room. You -could- trigger the fire suppression system that would flood the room with halon, suffocating the burglars. You could also not do this and risk them compromising or stealing systems from your paying customers.

There are always ethical dilemma's here. You could for example disable the breaks on your car when you park it, such that someone that manages to steal your car will likely crash unless he knows how to re-enable the brakes. But when this actually happens you can plead innocence: afaik it's not illegal to -park- a car along a public road with a defective break system. Maybe you just parked it there to get it towed and fixed?

A person in prison here is presumed to have no civil rights. Even so, those electrified fences are between two other fences that both have razor wire on top of them. I am not aware of the military using them in the states, but if they did, you can be assured they would be set up similar to the way prisons do it. Any person living in the United States cannot have their life put into jeopardy for the sake of property. Now, don't try telling me you can shoot someone who is breaking into your home as that is protecting life. Setup a gun to shot someone breaking in while you are not home and see how that plays out if it kills someone.

I've seen the electrified fences including warning sings in the middle east around mostly military objects, but there are warning signs, and you usually have to climb over a 'normal' fence to be able to get to them indeed. It's not like you accidentally touch them when just walking around and leaning on the wrong fence.

I'm not overly sure on how this applies to private property though. As long as it's clearly marked as such people stepping over the line take the risk to encounter countermeasures of sorts.

Principally i'm not against this, but it see some practical pitfalls. Say your house were on fire and firemen went onto your land to put that fire out, without having time/opportunity to ask permission to enter or anything like that.

It would be pretty shitty if you decided to put landmines all around your house, but in land you privately own, to keep burglars and such out. Then again it's by all means in your rights to construct something like a moat around your house to keep people out.

I guess it really comes down to specific situations, and the balance between danger, visibility of that danger, and to some degree how unusual the measure is. You could put signs "WARNING: LANDMINES" all around your land. That may make it legal, but also cause the fire brigade just to let your house burn down if it's on fire, or ambulance staff not to come to your help even when you call for it.

Those warning signs can be dangerous to you though. In university i drove boxes between buildings containing samples that required 'radioactive' and/or 'biohazard' labeling (the latter for genetically modified organisms, nothing dangerous but a technicality). If i would have gotten into an accident with one of those boxes visible in my car chances are emergency services would not have opened my car af a crash or something.

So also: do not put radioactive/biohazard/etc warning stickers on your stuff for fun. Not overly sure how they deal with the lazer hazard sticker though :D

Not sure about the laws in Europe, but in the USA it is illegal to possess explosives, so landmines would be a quick way to get into prison here. Even companies that have permits to have explosives would not use them to intentionally hurt anyone.

So owning fireworks is illegal if I can't own explosives?

That is just silly. Of course I was talking about high explosives. Not black powder explosives that are used for fireworks. And even the really cool fireworks require a permit to have and handle them. No one is going to kill anyone with a land mine made up of Black Cat firecrackers.

Aww, I almost knew a celebrity

Combine enough firecrackers, and you get some power. I was just sayin'. And actually the powder in firecrackers is way more dangerous than black powder in the bigger fireworks. Of course it comes down to weight class usually. I think 500g of black powder is the limit in a single civilian fireworks package, but they tend to divide it up into several shots. So, take 500g of firecracker powder in one shell, and dayum! And, you can possess more than one 500g firework pack.

Doesn't Area 51 have mines and deadly force against people who go beyond the warning signs, or do they send security or painful deterrents out before the deadly force?
