Many of You know that I am former military. And I know that there are others on LPF that are former military as well. ISIS is a threat the United States can not ignore but I really do not want to see any more of our fine men and women brought home in bags. I have been to to many local funerals over the last decade. Some were just to support the family as stranger. Some were more close to home. I had to attend 12 funerals over the years of guys and a gal that I served with. It Washington there are a few active duty bases but there is a large contingent of National Guard and Reserves here as well. I was fortunate to been able to serve with these groups. We must do something to stop the treat before it gets to big to handle. I fear that may already be to late. Any way I just tired of sending our men and women over to fight for some thing that just does not make sense in my eyes. I would like to take a minute once a months and say a prayer to keep these folks safe and have them come home to their love ones

That's very respectable of you. I myself don't understand the motivation behind some people to do that, but hey people are crazy.

I was also amazed when you mentioned going to people's funerals to give comfort to the families. That's awesome! We need more folks like you :)

I agree vortish. The ISIS movement is beyond comprehendible. They kill Muslims and Christians alike, woman and children. Hopefully enough countries can band together and put this to an end.

Had the misfortune of seeing that horrible video ISIS released of the Jordanian pilot. Whole world needs to work together to get rid of that cult.

I fear that some of the strategy we are using is not the best though:

U.S. to Equip Moderate Syrian Rebels: Defense Official - NBC News

Arming "moderate" rebels is a big gamble at best ... too many rebel groups on the ground there and ones that are moderate now could ally with who knows who in the future. :undecided:

Best bet IMO would be to aid the Assad regime and his allies along with massive air strikes against as many ISIS targets as we can hit. He may be a ruthless dictator, but he would seem to be the lesser of many evils right now and still has enough of a foothold on the ground to have a chance to push back against ISIS and the other salafist jihadi rebel groups, which are a far greater threat to us than he ever was.

Here, here Vortish. I served as a Marine infantryman in the first Gulf War. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago. I too despise our men and women fighting wars for Corporate interests. I was opposed to G.W's war in Iraq and it did little more than put us in centuries of debt and completely unstablize the region. Whats done is done and IMO it was a huge mistake. When you topple a dictator you play a total craps game as to if the next guy is going to be better or worse and if the region will go to utter shit. In the middle east odds always favor what we have now. Complete chaos.

My anti Iraq war feelings aside. ISIS needs to be stopped, hunted down and killed like the scum they are. Although I know we are going to loose more brave soldiers I fully support the Presidents decision to take action. We can take up arms now or we can take up arms later when the risks are higher.
The thing I hate is knowing we are doing exactly what ISIS wants. They want to drag us back there and play cat and mouse. They will hide behind women and children and try to make us look like what they are. Murderous cowards that kill indiscriminately. I hope we kill many, many ISIS combatants and I hope they die slowly and in vain.
I do not pray nor believe in any gods but my thoughts and support will be with our soldiers often. We can't sit by and do nothing and I thank our service people for doing their job. ISIS has awoken the giant. The most terrifying thing in this world I have seen is our full scale military assault.

I worked side by side with our military as a civilian in Afghanistan and Iraq for five years straight (leaving in 2013) except for 4 weeks off a year, been attacked by rocket many times (missed me), shot at, & attempted poisoning. I thought the Taliban was bad, ISIS is 1000 times worse, I don't understand their motivation, the Taliban I could, but not this creature. What a time to face this beast with a heart of hearts Muslim in the White House wearing gloves due to his religious affiliation.

I enlisted in 1993 at the tender age of 17 in the Washington State National Guard. Both Side of my family have served this great nation we live in. I can trace roots of family on both sides all the way back to the civil war. Though during that time most of my family was fighting for the Confederates. My great grandpa two great uncles and a aunt and a few distant cousins fought in WWI my maternal grandpa fought on a navy destroyer in WWII I have his dog tags attached to mine. I have three uncles that fought in Korea, and Vietnam. One of them is deceased. Both sides made me proud to serve. I missed PGWI by six months. I was in the IRR during PGWII or Enduring Freedom! I went to boot in 94 and finish training in 1995 my class A co 1/32 Sand Hill Ft Benning Ga was a group of 255 souls. I know that there are less that 70 us still here. that is a 120 of my brothers in green that are gone! I sit here typing this in tears! There are days I feel guilty that I am still here and they are not! I lost members of My National Guard Unit I was in for six years. men I was very close with. A co 1-161 81 brigade and they are not here either! My hospital unit. 396th CSH Men and Women that I served with NOT here. I had to leave the service do to health reason. But It does not make me feel any less guilty. I want these murdering Bastards STOPPED! Not because they are Muslim and follow the teaching of a mad man Mohamed. I have friend that are Muslim and fallow Islam does not make the bad people. ISIS are not Muslim they are just plane Murdering Bastards that are killing women, children, old people. I read one report that ISIS lit 45 children under the age of 12 on fire in a cage!:wtf: What SICK, Demented, Scum of the earth these people are. I say Evack as many civilians out of the area as possible then turn it in t o a glass parking lot with MOAB's I would ask the we pray for these people that are stuck in these area's I dont care if you believe in Jesus or not Say a silent pray for these lost souls over :angel:there!

I guess ISIS is more of a radicals radical Muslim, so far removed they have become something else, a black wolf of the fold. Thank you for your service, I did some, also at age 17 but the USCG, quasi military.

A little bit of good news; it looks like "Jihadi John" has been identified! He is Mohammed Emwazi, a 26yr old British citizen.
He is best known for beheading ISIS captives.

BG - JJ is only one of many who are butchers. Kill him - So what?
Many of the people of that belief system remain quiet thereby becoming
facilitators of this worldwide travesty. They are bleeding us from a
thousand cuts and we need to stop to let themselves "find peace".
Let us not again have to teach them and the world "a lesson that they
will never forget". Never forget our 9/11 travesty.

ISIS is a cancer.

Its not good for Muslims or anyone else.

It seems to want to inflame a holy war, so that ISIS can tell the illiterate fundamentalist followers that ISLAM is under attack, and all faithful must rally to the cause.

Its the extremist Helter Skelter.
