in my free time i have been experimenting with a new template for the forum called icerealm2

note that is template uses some CSS transparency settings that might cause firefox and internet explorer to use quite a bit more memory, causing a slight lag. it depends on how much ram and the speed of your cpu.

my hope is that some people will really like this template though. it took a lot of effort to get it to the point it is at now.

i will be making lots of ongoing adjustments this week for this template, please let me know if there is something you like that i changed to something worse, or if there is something bad that i have improved..

to test out the template try going to your options section of your profile and choose icerealm2 from the dropdown box.

Wile the fog type effect is cool, it makes reading or even seeing the forum very difficult.
If this effect can be lightened it would be nice.
Other than that,, I didn't see any other changes, I'll recheck it from time to time to see how your progressing.

I noticed! :) Looks MUCH better, I do like it, but as you stated it does cause the page to load a tad bit slower. Is the effect using a gif, bmp, gif or a png?

If it is it may be possible to optimize the image.
Also you might be able to have the image store in the users cache for faster loading.

I see, your using a bit of transparency and a background image. a jpg, It might be better to us a gif, although you would loose a bit of detail, the page loading would be quicker.

I ran an optimizer and saved it as a gif, see if this works.

im pretty sure the main reason for the lag is the transparency. if i remove it, the delay goes away altogether. but the transparency looks really good, so i guess its a trade off heh

Oops, I didn't see the file size LOL, oh well.
I made a different logo, its background is transparent to blend in better, but I don't have all my hundreds of fonts on my laptop that I'm, using, and I'm not sure how the new colors will look.

By the way, I really like the looks , Great job. Blue is my favorite color.

just to let you know - i'm running firefox on debian linux, athlon 64 dual core 5200+ with 1mb cache per core and 2gb ddr2-667 ram, and your new theme *kills* my computer! lol... well, scrolling on the forum goes real jerky with the pixels from the top half of a line of text being repeated until i stop scrolling and it re-renders... *however* - the proper nvidia driver is broken for me right now, so that may be affecting things. other than my inability to use it, it looks quite pretty :)

feedback here too: While it looks cool, it is a bit odd with the blue text on blue background. So if you keep icerealms, you might consider brightening up the blue text/icons.

Also, there is an ever so slight lag when scrolling on my system (C2D 2,66GHz, XP, 2GB).

As to memory, I see no difference.

but it is a nice skin!

ummm for those people who do not like it, or it is slow on their computer, you can make it so you still use the dark shadows theme, but the ice one is default.
