Define high power please.

If I can't pop a room full of popcorn from 100,000 feet, it is not powerful enough.

that was stolen from "Real Genius" an 80's movie about lasers. I taped it off HBO so long ago the tape wore out, then again from direct TV a couple years ago.

OHHHHHH :p

Sorry it just doesn't look like popcorn from that far away...
and you said that it "pops" popcorn from 100k ft. away, not that it generates it (unless there is a whole lot of unpopped popcorn laying around the house to begin with)

Apparently you havent seen the movie. They put a huge ball of aluminum foil with popping corn inside and hit it with the laser ;)

I found out about high power lasers also through KipKays burning lasers video.

I never knew that a laser can be powerfull enough to do thermal damage.... however it can :D

I also was determined to try it out myself. While waiting a week or two for spare DVD burner, I found out about drivers, current regulation, optics, and of course,

THIS FORUM

to which my deepest thanks goes! (Also, if you ask me, forum is not a computer running 24/7, forum is a community of people, so thank all'ya!)

I found out about high powered laser pointers from a wicked lasers banner add. Then searched for more info and found kipkay vid links, then searched for more info on how to build laser pointers, and you will NEVER guess which forum site came up....... :D :D :D :D

lol and "Real Genius" was always one of my favorite movies back in the day. I agree with the need for a handheld laser that can pop popcorn from 100,000 feet up.

I've been amazed by lasers since I was too small to know anything more than it was a tiny red flashlight, i was so intriuged in 1999, when I had my first red keychain, it wasn't until two years ago I was on gizmodo.com and saw an article about wicked lasers, I went to their site, saw the prices, and was scared away. I researched more and more, my parents wouldn't let me get a powerful one at first, so I got my 5mW green from radioshack, followed by a 5mW DX violet... Later on (this year), we came to the agreement that I would spend my money on whatever I wanted, seeing as the money was mine, I bought my first high powered laser, my skylasers 150mW pointer, i was amazed, since the beginning my best friend has been there, we joined LPF together and we regularly hang out in the complete darkness just to play with our lasers. I love my story. :)

^grazi^ -I think your best bet for that movie nowadays would probably be netflix or hulu, if you could find it you'd have to find a VHS player too lol.
