Hehe... I'm gonna rant a bit.

So, intro - I hope this'll explain the rest of my post.

I'm Chad. (d'oh.) I used to go under a different name, but that was when I was young and pretty immature... bad times. So nobody knows me, but if I leaked my old name, half of y'all would know who I was. I used to be around a whole lot... Mostly back when LC was still a damn good forum. I was voted one of their top 10 most valuable members at one point... I think I was #6? but that's not the point. I got banned, and joined here... then I got into some PM-based pissing matches with those guys who started LE, and I got tired of it and left. I went underground for a bit, and joined again a few months ago.

So, that's my background. Now, onto the good stuff.  ;)

I just caught the tail end of The Drama when I came back, and things went normal again...
but then, all these n00bs joined, and freakin' rampaged. Now, there are these guys who I've never even heard of before, with huge post counts, asking n00bish questions and trying to answer the hard ones.
If you can imagine, I'm confused. I can't answer any questions, because some guys who, from my perspective, barely know which end of the soldering iron gets hot.  Ouch.

*sigh*

you guys who've just joined recently, LEARN STUFF. THEN, you can answer people, and know at least the basic ins and outs of your answer, instead of copy/pasting and trying to take the credit. (I know some of you have done that.  :p) It'll make life easier! and you'll be awesomer than usual! FTW! ;D

Thanks for listening.  :)

Well I'm fairly new, and have a huge post count, for the time frame at least.I try to answer questions that I know the answer to.I don't think I've started more than 3 or 4 new threads.I post a lot, I'll give you that, and I admit that some of my posts are useless observations and some are pretty much spam. But I hope that, at least, the rest of my posts are constructive and helpful.I never try to go offtopic or completely change the topic of someone's thread.I mainly post because I often have some time that I don't have anything else better to do with and if I feel that I can add anything at all to a discution , I will.I don't really care about my post count in itself, infact I wouldn't care if Avery would just reset it to 0.All the pasting I do is between "quote" tags.

If anyone should find me annoying in any way then they should just tell me, backed up by some good arguments, because it's not my intention to do so. :p

So there! I feel pretty justified and not an idiot in what I'm doing around here ;D

Well I too like Switch am pretty knew and I too post crap posts sometimes when I just can't help myself, like this one. Although I rarely post crap posts on normal threads I admit I can get pretty annoying sometimes. ;D However I definetely do not consider myself a noob, not because of my post count (which I never even look at simply because I don't give a crap about it) but due to my knowledge. I'm not saying I'm a genius, I still have a crapload of stuff to learn and there's a whole bunch of people here who know tons more stuff than I do, but I do know my stuff because I spent a lot of time reading through the forum before I registered.
I found this forum in the beginning of September and I was so surprised at what lasers were capabale of doing, (typical noob reaction) at first I decided not to register and just read through the forum and learn. I saw how new people were treated and were told to read instead of asking silly questions. So I decided to read a lot and be prepared before registering so that I wouldn't have to act like a noob. I read through the forum for about 3 months before registering, I mostly read through DDL's driver thread (I learned the little things I know about electronics from that thread) and about laser safety since I wanted to know the dangers of using lasers and how to protect my eyes.
I finally registered on December under the name of chido (which by the way is a word little Mexican children use which means "cool" :p) just to ask SenKat about a diode I ordered from him right before his surgery.
From then on I spent a long time from posting anything until I started to help other new people by putting to use all the things I had learned. Up until know I feel pretty embarrased because even though I could probably build a laser with my eyes closed ;D I still haven't made any. :-[ At first it was becuase I wanted to get myself some safety goggles before I even touched my diode, I got them some time ago from xarylx, (which by the way is a great guy to deal with) but unfortunately my dad and I are going through a tough time right now (not going to go into any details) so I don't think I'm gonna be building my laser any time soon. I did however play with the diode I got from SenKat back in December a few days ago. Too bad it was from the bad batch and it died after about 1/2 hour of total on time by running it at only 150mA. :'( At least now I can use "the beast" [smiley=evil.gif]
Well, I guess this turned into an autobiography. Sorry. ;D Anyway I really enjoy helping people out. So anyone new who's reading this, feel free to PM me if you happen to have any questions, mostly on red an bluray lasers as I don't know all about green lasers. ;) :)

Kudos to Avery for a kick ass forum.

Regards

chido

Heh, I've been on a lot of forums where it was super hard to get 300 posts, but I see most people have huge post counts here.I think it's because this forum is a little more "high tollerance" than most.On many forums you would get warned after double posting or stuff like that.

That is exactly what I have thought. On one forum I used to go to the mods would ban people if they started "Useless" topics. They would even get mad if they started a "useless" topic in the off topic section! But I like the LPF to be more tolerant, I think it lets people express their ideas without thinking they might get flamed.

I think I'll join in this thread just to get another post count.  ;D

This is a unique forum, in my opinion, and seems to be the only one of which grabs my interest and that I check on routinely.  I’ve been visiting this forum for about a year now, although never joined until I wanted to spend some real money on a real laser and needed direction.  Of coarse WL is the first place I checked (years ago), but I read up on other web sites (Instructables, Globalspec, DX, this forum etc.) and using my own judgment stayed clear of LC and WL.  I’ve built several lasers (and destroyed several too) and I’ve been using a soldering iron since I was 10.  I’ve always been infatuated with electronics and lasers.  I’ve posted some of my projects on this forum for show and tell.  I usually try to state that it is in my opinion or that it is my theory and make it very clear of that fact before presenting an idea of which I could be wrong.  Allot of my posts may be considered “useless”, but like Switch, if someone feels annoyed in anyway, let me know.  I don’t have a “Myspace” because I personally don’t feel like presenting a computerized image of who I want to be and share my boring nerdy life with others (or read up on others).  Instead, I come to this forum and share thoughts, theories, and personality.  I’ve learned allot and been entertained allot, and I hope I’ve been able to contribute.

Heres my lifestory:

I had tried to read up on lasers and at one point I wanted to try a laser flashlight hack- it was made by some guy who knew nothing and he was basically telling people to hook an LD up to 2 AA batteries. I wanted to buy a diode so I went to stonetek and somehow found LPF. Then I found out that everything I was trying was wrong. So I asked lots of questions and now I understand how circuits work in a practical sense and I'm really getting into electronics. Idc if you don't like people who ask questions but its how most people in the world learn and If people were that bothered about me asking questions they did not have to offer help- I guess they did because they are laser fans and are happy when other people are discovering their hobby. If you don't like people asking questions then make an FAQ ffs....

i totally agree, i've learned so much in here and i had to ask a lot of noobish questions.

the way to stop asking the same questions all the time is the Tutorials section, that way someone can up a guide to, i.e., green lasers, and no more same questions for people who search!!

another thing, nobody says checking EVERY thread is compulsory, you can choose which threads to read, if you dont want to answer a question just dont.

thats what I do, I check the threads that I find interesting or feel I know something about. And then I only post if I actually have something constructive and something that wasn't already posted. I think its fine to have large post counts, as long as they are mostly constructive, and not just copying and pasting like Chad was talking about. Only answer questions if you know the answer. and don't ask questions which can easily be found elsewhere.

But also, older members, don't get frustrated at new members easily. sometimes they actually DO have good questions. And sometimes they just haven't figured out how to use that search button ;)
