I got mine in the mail today, and I gota say it sure beats the black 4171 (cr123a) host in every way. it looks tougher, feels better to hold, it's awesome. I dont know what the black version looks like (in person), but the silver rocks! I'm sure silver and blu ray will go together great!

The head is one of the features that gives it the most WIN. It's strong, thick, and looks awesome. Maybe it helps act as a heatsink? idk, but it sure beats the other one shown here in the picture.
(the laser in the back is my KD 150mW focusable green laser)

here are some pictures, the 1st and 2nd are the closest to it's actual color:

LUL WUT  ^^
yeah, looks like the black cap fits on this host.

after looking at the silver 3405 (real sku is 5429) host.... the (black cr123a) 4171 sucks!

here is a link to the silver host:

This is the (hand held) host I build most of my really high powered experiments in.  My 300mW "mistake" is in one of these hosts. The amount of heat sinking you get with this host is VERY nice.  PLUS, there is PLENTY of room in there to work with!  Of course up to now they've all been in black.  I haven't seen this gray/silver one in person yet.  I bought a couple of the gold ones just to see if they had changed the dimensions of the host any with the new colors.  They didn't.  As your pictures show, the parts are interchangeable.  Most importantly, the Jayrob heat sink still works :)  I built a couple of lasers out of the gold ones.

I think I'll have one more on the market yet.  Then, I've decided, I want to do some work with the pen-style hosts I have here

Nice looking lasers you've got there.

Peace,

too bad there is only 1 laser in that pic... the rest is merely flashlight hosts! :D
well I havn't seen the gold in person, but seen that it is actually bronze, I think you'l really like the silver, I can only imagine how well it must look with blu-ray.

btw, I managed to kind of fit a 18650 battery in and turn the flashlight on, but not everything was screwed in all the way.. I wonder if it's possible to get it to fully fit, I heard of someone removing the little black thing inside the tail cap and having the battery head touch the metal inside. I'd sure rather use 18650 over AAA's.

So they are "soon to be" lasers then ;)

Here's an idea for a battery

http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2726

It is 18mm x 50mm. It would take some work to wire the "ends", and you would have to "fill" around it (like with the 18650) but it should fit.

Peace,

wires on a battery??? i dont even consider that a battery anymore! lol, sounds too challenging, I guess I'll stick with AAA's.
