Government shutdown

This seems to come up every year. The government shuts down for a week or so to allow more time to come to a budget agreement while they still get paid. Sadly my paycheck may not come on the 15th but I'm still required to go to work.

What are LPFs views on this current administration?

I'll tell you in 4 months when I get out what I really think. BTW, we will be getting paid on the 15th. Even if Obama vetoes the bill, it got enough votes to override his decision. This problem always seems to come up under democrat presidents...

The theory is that it isn't worth losing all the electoral votes, just to complain on a bill. They'll sit on it until last minute and ask for more time.

Completely ridiculous.

Could a private company survive if it had an 10-11% customer satisfaction rating?

If it was perpetually bankrupt despite higher than ever revenues, and charging ever more while delivering less in services?

Would an employee be kept at a company if he never delivered on his promises?

Why is it that those with the greatest responsibility face so little accountability?

Why is washington exempting itself from the very rules that it creates for all others?

With that little rant over, what the hell are the republicans thinking? Stick to 1-2 major points that people actually support.

For example mandate ACA (Obamacare) use for all government employees, and eliminate any tax breaks/subsidies to help pay for it, for government employees, so they are subject to the same exact law as everyone else.

Or how about setting the government wage at minimum wage, with bonuses based on the state of the national deficit, and GDP growth? Deficit there... no bonus.

How about a flat tax on income, regardless of how that income is made?

How about since corporations can be treated as people, they be taxed as people? Eliminate the loophole that allows profits to be shifted offshore.

Together these changes would more than pay for universal healthcare, and reduce taxes for 90%+ of individuals, and families out there.

Would some companies run to other countries? Of course they would. Would there be a mass exodus of people leaving the country? No of course there wouldn't be, and the capital would remain here in the US.

Democrats want more votes? Vote for some level of fiscal responsibility, and leave people's gun rights alone.

It's the republicans that absolutely baffle me though. Not one person I know is in favor of a bigger government, or more spending. Not one is in favor of higher taxes.

Yet who can vote for people who loudly advocate against gay rights, or women's rights? I don't fall into either of those categories, yet how can I vote for a person that would be against these things. The answer is I can't. Neither can most decent people.

Apparently active duty is in the clear. From what I was told today.

I still believe civilian contractors are being furloughed however...

Basically anything to do with active duty military services is good for at least 2 weeks.

Within various agencies it's chaos though... the one I work with for example, over half the people are out. In another part, they were only open until noon.

As far as contractors are concerned, if they have been paid in advance, they are still working.

Historically those that have been furloughed do get paid, so it turns into more of a mini paid vacation, with just some added headaches when it's over.

America was not shut down properly. Would you like to start America in safe mode, with free healthcare & without the guns? (Recommended)

"it's the democrats' fault!"
"it's the republicans' fault!"
"it's the tea party's fault!"

It's sad that most of our laws aren't made because they are the right thing to do, but rather they are made because one side hates the other just a smidge more than they hate them.

Really, these old farts just need to admit that they are all imbeciles who have been running us into the ground, contributing to the dumbing down of the masses in order to quell any disgruntled citizens from persuing their right to overthrow this ridiculous farce of a government.
